If I Didn’t Have To Work

Once again, it’s Thursday, and time for Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop. Today, I had some fun with this prompt:

4.) 10 things you would do if you didn’t have to work

Here’s my list, in no particular order:

1. If I didn’t have to work, I would have lunch dates with friends and former school classmates. Oh, wait….I did that last week.

2. If I didn’t have to work, I would go shopping with my friend, Bev.  Oh, wait….we did that Monday.

3. If I didn’t have to work, I would write a blog.  Oh, wait…..

4. If I didn’t have to work, I would visit my friend, Doris, and we’d rubber stamp all day.  Oh, wait….that’s on the agenda for the near future.

5. If I didn’t have to work, I’d meet my sister, June and my niece, Barb, for lunch.  Oh, wait….also on the agenda.

6. If I didn’t have to work, I would have breakfast every Monday morning with Motor Man and Marshall.  Oh, wait…. we DO that!

7.  If I didn’t have to work, I would invite my niece, Donna and her son, Connor, to visit from Texas and stay with us for several days.  Oh, wait….they arrived last night!

8. If I didn’t have to work, I would ride with Motor Man on out-of-town trips for race practice. Oh wait…. we just did that this week.

9. If I didn’t have to work, I would cook a gourmet dinner for Motor Man every evening. Oh, wait….can a grilled cheese sandwich be considered “gourmet”?

10. If I didn’t have to work, I would keep a spotless house.  Oh, wait….nope, that’s never gonna happen.

You’ve probably guessed that I don’t work a full-time job. (Motor Man and I are both semi-retired.)  So, once again, I took liberties with Mama Kat’s prompt.  She should be accustomed to me doing that by now.

  1. Very cute, Dianna. You know how to enjoy life.

  2. There’s a lot to be said for retirement/semi-retirement. Of course, you havne’t gotten to the age where your body THANKS you for not having to work!

  3. You take such fun and wonderful liberties with the writing cues. Your posts are so fun and filled with joy. 🙂

  4. Now that’s a wonderful perspective! 🙂

  5. I think this is my first time here and I am glad I stopped by. I liked what you did with the prompt too and I did not guess the ending! I retired at age 38 because I am disabled with Lupus. I am still as busy as ever. Being sick is a full-time job, doctor’s appointments, insurance, etc. And most of my friends work during the week. I did not blog until I left my work. I think not working freed my brain up to be creative and then the words came!

  6. Great job and I totally think that grilled cheese are gourmet meals! Stopping by from Mama Kat’s

  7. Glad you are semi-retired! You couldn’t possibly do all you do with a 9 to 5 job. And I wouldn’t have my stamping partner!

  8. What fun you have and such great friends and family. Isn’t retirement great? I think so!!!

  9. #9 and #10 made me laugh! you enjoy every moment of every day, girlie!

  10. I totally didn’t have the guts to do this one….cause I so wish I wasn’t working (or working from home) and I didn’t want to bum myself out! I love how you share your time with special people and keep a regular time with Marshall. I’m hoping I can get an every other week family dinner set up with the kids once wedding/holidays are over!

  11. It is amazing at all the things you do. You forgot to mention all the good deeds you do for others……..Everyone that blogs with you should also know this!!!!!!!

  12. perfect!! semi retired also, what i do, i do from home!! it’s a wonderful life!!

  13. I’m don’t work any more….at a paying job! And I consider myself semi-retired from housework…ha! I don’t worry about it being spotless like I once did. It’s nice you keep up with your friends and family. I know how that takes a lot of effort that some of us (me) could be better at. Have a great day!

  14. 10 VERY good points! You did have fun with this one!

  15. Sounds like you are having a good time!!!

  16. What a fun post! I’m glad you have the time to nurture those relationships. I agree, grilled cheese is “gourmet.” And let the dust bunnies multiply! lol

  17. Cute post, further proving that you are an amazing woman who cares so much for others. I admire you!

  18. This is so cute! Nice pictures too!

  20. Sweet post. Your life is smiling at you.

  21. What fun! This is so cute……I’m grateful every single day that we are retired but the memories of those days are fresh enough I could certainly recall thinking about “if I didn’t have to work” !!!

Loved reading this….(and the pix too of course!)

  22. This is awesome! It supports exactly what I’ve been thinking while reading these…that we don’t have to stop working to accomplish things on our lists! Love it!

  23. And then I just read that last paragraph…you make me laugh. Now I know why you have a little extra time to spend on those things. Ha! Well STILL…I still think we can accomplish what’s on our lists AND work. Why can’t we have it all!?!
