Art Imitates Life

Well, not exactly, but “comics imitate life” doesn’t quite have the same ring.

Motor Man and I enjoy reading the comics in our daily newspaper. He reads the paper in the morning at our shop, and I read it at home in the evening. It’s amazing how often we find some connection in the comics to our lives.

Last week, this was one of the Family Circus comics.

When I saw it, I was immediately reminded of this picture of Marshall taken the night after he turned one year old.

I cropped it so the date wouldn’t show, since I wasn’t sure if Marshall wanted his age known. But, under the date, I had written: “1:40 AM. Must have been the party”. Earlier in the evening, we had celebrated his birthday with a small ‘lawn party’. I can’t recall now if he’d gone to sleep, woke up and wasn’t able to go back to sleep, or if it was 1:40 AM, and he hadn’t been to sleep at all.

This was an old sideboard where we kept odds and ends: wrapping paper, etc. I think that’s his baby book in the white box.

I just love those little arms up in the air. Apparently he was very proud of his accomplishment.

  1. Oh, I do hope Marshall hasn’t lost his sense of achievement!

  2. Nobody does as good a job at “reorganizing” a cabinet as a little kid! Yep – like cats – they are always into something…..
