Schooner Windsong

Earlier this summer, while on a visit to the beautiful little town of Cape Charles on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, we noticed a ‘sandwich board’ ad for a sailboat cruise from the nearby marina.  We did some research and booked a sail.

So yesterday, we spent a relaxing summer afternoon on the Chesapeake Bay on “Windsong”, a 47 foot schooner built in 1954.

Her owners, husband and wife, Cory and Bronwyn, purchased her in 2020. Watching the two of them work together running the boat and ‘manning’ the sails was mesmerizing.

This is looking toward the town of Cape Charles. The two-story building with the gray roof is the Northampton Inn. Motor Man and I, along with our friend, Donna, spent a wonderful weekend there a few years ago, celebrating her birthday.

Motor Man and I took the obligatory selfie while out ‘on the bay’.

But asked Bronwyn to take a photo of us once our cruise was done.

This was such a fun experience, one that we definitely recommend if you’re in the area. If you’d like to read more about Windsong, including the log from her former owners, click here.

  1. Looks like a perfect day and a beautiful sailboat to enjoy it in. We did a similar sail out of Inner Harbor in Maryland – it was at sunset and we STILL talk about it to this day. Glad you had a good time!

  4. Oh what a wonderful adventure. I like the name of the schooner too.

  5. Looks like a perfect day for a perfect outing. My hubby would love to go on the Windsong. As for me, I couldn’t help but remember the old perfume of the same name and its jingle – ♫”I can’t seem to forget you, your Windsong stays on my mind.”♪
