Random Five Friday

Last night, I prepared this post for today. And as I double-checked this morning over at A Rural Journal, where Random Five Friday is hosted, I saw that Nancy is taking a little blogging break over the holidays. Oh well, here are my five random thoughts anyway….!

1.) We had a very nice Thanksgiving. Marshall came for breakfast, then later in the day, we joined Motor Man’s family for a mid-day meal.

2.) I feel like the old”cow’s tail”, but I just recently discovered Shutterfly. What a user- friendly site! (I’ve been ordering Christmas gifts….shhhhh.)

3.) As I was downloading pictures from my camera chip today, I came across this one. Motor Man and I were crossing the little bridge in nearby Rescue, Va one morning last week and noticed how clear and pretty the water was. So we stopped for a picture. Or two. Or ten.

4.) We’re having a few of my former classmates over tonight after dinner. Light refreshments, catching up, reminiscing. (When we’re all together, I usually laugh until my stomach hurts.) I’m making party meatballs, using a recipe I’ve had for over 30 years. Yummy!

5.) I’m planning to start decorating for Christmas this weekend.  Just a couple of weeks ago, I was dreading the whole process, but now, for some reason, I’m looking forward to it!

Thanksgiving And Throwback Thursday

This “vintage” photo seemed an appropriate one to share on Thanksgiving Day.

This was taken in 1994 during the Olden Days Festival in our hometown.  I had dressed up for the occasion, and apparently, so had this gentleman. I don’t know who he was (George Washington, perhaps?): someone just thought we should have our picture taken together.

On a more serious note,  I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. Motor Man and I are grateful to be spending much of the day with family.

To give thanks in solitude is enough.
Thanksgiving has wings and goes where it must go.
Your  prayer knows much more about it than you do.

Treasure Hunting: Teddy’s Rocker

The antiquing trip with my friends on Saturday resulted in this find:

I just love the old chipped paint in red, green and blue. And I wonder how many little ones loved this chair through the years.

Now, it makes for a good spot for an old bear I found (for $5.00) a couple of weeks ago.

I do believe he’s made himself right at home.

A Miss Gypsy Update

Many several a couple of you expressed concern in your comments yesterday regarding Gypsy getting cuddles and being warm at the shop.

Let me assure you that Gypsy gets her fair share of cuddling. From me….

And Motor Man…

But, she also has every customer and friend who stops by the shop wrapped around her little paw.

Oh, and if Motor Man thinks she’s chilly, there’s always a soft shop rag nearby that can be used for a blankie.

So, never fear, little Miss Gypsy is comfy, cozy, happy and loved. And she thanks you for thinking of her.

Sundae’s Sunday

Winter weather arrived in our area yesterday. Our high temperature for the day was 43, which doesn’t really sound that bad. But we had strong winds, which made it feel much colder.

Motor Man and I spent a rare (quiet) Sunday at home.

This is how Sundae spent part of the day (on my lap).

It’s tough being a cat.

Right, Sundae?

Random Five Friday

I just love Random Five Fridays. Here are five of my thoughts today:

1.) Thinking of Thanksgiving next week, I wish I could once again taste my Mom’s homemade dressing (we never called it stuffing). It was so good, I’d eat it cold, right out of the fridge.

2.) Tomorrow, I’m planning another antiquing trip with my friends, Donna and Shirley. Donna recently sent me this picture of her kitty, Dreamsicle, perched on the hitching post. She was a feral kitty, and Donna tamed her.

3.) Yesterday, my sister, June, and I spent an hour just visiting and chatting. Even though we e-mail each other everyday, it was nice to catch up in person.

4.) I’ve been friends for quite some time with Pam (mom to Sammy, a.k.a. One Spoiled Cat). Earlier this week, Pam, and her husband, Dave, along with Dave’s brother and his wife, visited Williamsburg. Wednesday night, Motor Man and I joined them for dinner at Shields Tavern. Delicious dinner, wonderful atmosphere and great company!

5.) As a fifth-grader on the school playground, I heard that President Kennedy had been assassinated. Realizing that was 50 years ago today makes me feel my age more than event I can ever recall.

Throwback Thursday

If you’re on Facebook, you may have noticed a recent trend known as “Throwback Thursday”, where folks share pictures from years ago. I’m going back more years than I care to remember with these photos.

Mary Tyler Moore was one of my favorite tv shows at this time, and I desperately wanted to be her. There were a couple of similarities: I worked as a secretary, and I had long dark hair. But I could never get that tam to sit “just so” on my head. Believe me, I tried.

Goodness….just look at that hair.
