Random Five Friday

Today’s post is the final Random Five Friday for 2016. So difficult to believe that, in a few days, we’ll be writing 2017.

1.  AND, on that first day of 2017, my sweet Motor Man will be celebrating his birthday.   Happy Birthday, MM.  Love you SO much! Photo credit to our dear friend Pam, One Spoiled Cat. We were having lunch with Pam and her husband, Dave,at historic Hanover Tavern in Hanover, Virginia, parts of which date from the 1700’s. (Pam took this right after Motor Man commented: “Can you imagine how many drunks have stumbled up those steps through the years?”)

2.) A couple of years ago, my friend, Bev, and I decided that, rather than exchange gifts at Christmas, we’d each just each fill a stocking for the other. We’ve bent the rules a little, though, and now, rather than stockings, we use pretty totes, decorative boxes, etc.  It’s fun to be on the lookout all year for little things we know the other one will like. This year, Bev filled one of those pretty boxes for me with all sorts of useful, fun items. And, a very special gift that I will cherish. You may recall that one of Bev’s and my favorite past-times is walking along the shore, looking for treasures. Unlike me, Bev often uses her findings to create pretty little pieces of art. And then she shares them with her relatives and friends. In the nativity scene pictured below, the shell was purchased, but the sea glass is some that was found on our walks on the beach.  Bev said she had used all the pearls in her craft supplies on other nativities, so she went to the thrift shop and bought a cheap inexpensive pearl bracelet to finish mine.  The little findings for the star were also from old jewelry. Notice the halo for Baby Jesus, crafted from jewelry wire. Thanks, Bev. This is an easel I just happened to have on hand; after finding a more suitable one, I think this will be on display year-round.

3.) Earlier this week, I downloaded all the pictures off Motor Man’s flip phone:  all 364 of them.  It had reached the point that he had such little storage space left, he couldn’t receive texts. And in the motor world, receiving texts from other engine builders is vital.  And of the 364 pictures, the subject in 223 of them was….um, not motors, but rather?

4.) Late yesterday afternoon, a cold front came through our area, bringing strong winds and amazing clouds. It also made for a gorgeous sunset sky,

…which dramatically changed over the course of about 30 minutes.

5.) Oh, and what’s that sound?  That would be the beach, calling us for one more 2016 trip.

Happy 2017. May it be a happy, healthy one for us all.

Tradition With A Tripod

Monday, I posted a little “tease” on my Facebook page, along with this photo. It’s our “annual family Christmas photo”, taken Sunday evening. And I promised to share on today’s blog post just how many years we’ve had this tradition of taking a photo of the three of us – and Sundae -on Christmas evening.

This was last year’s picture.

Christmas, 2013. It’s so nice having a tripod and a camera with a timer.

Christmas, 2012.

Christmas, 2011.  And here’s a funny story:  several years ago, I was following a blogger who often posted pictures of her and her husband on their outings. I commented and asked if they always asked strangers to take their photos. She replied that they had a small tripod. I mentioned that to Motor Man, and he said that we already had a tripod….upstairs….with a pair of large binoculars on them,  positioned to look out at the water. Silly me:  I knew the binoculars were there, but never thought about them being on a tripod. This next family picture was taken before we I discovered the tripod. Notice just the tips of Sundae’s ears in the photo. This was her first Christmas with us. Not the best picture, but a fun selfie memory.

And, as far as I can tell, our first family Christmas photo, taken in 2010 (also a selfie).

We had taken pictures of each other on prior Christmases: Marshall would take one of Motor Man and me, and Motor Man would take one of Marshall and me. But it’s nice to have pictures of all of us together. I’m glad we started this tradition (and that we “discovered” that tripod).

Monday Morning Mews

Hello, readers. Happy day after Christmas! Gypsy here with a brief report on my Christmas holiday.

Santa brought me new toys and treats, and my pawrents spent part of their day with me.

Look! Motor Mommy and I match!

But, my favorite part of ANY day is cuddling with my Motor Man.

I  hope you had a furry nice Christmas, too.

Love, Gypsy

Monday Morning Mews

Hello, efurryone, and welcome to the Christmas edition of Monday Morning Mews. This is Sundae, the “senior” of us two kitties, beginning today’s post with my Christmas wishes for you.  You may have seen this photo of me in a previous post, but it’s one of Motor Mommy’s favorites, so I’m sharing it again today.

I just love it when my pawrents decorate the Christmas tree. It’s so much fun to lie under the tree and look up at all the lights and ornaments.  I sure hope Santa Paws knows that I’ve been a good kitty this year. And I hope all of you have a wonderful Christmas.

And, now, I’m turning things over to my younger step-sisfur, Gypsy, for her Christmas wish to you:

Hello, hello! It’s Gypsy, and I’m so excited to wish all our readers a Merry Christmas.

Motor Mommy bought this cute little Christmas scarf for me, and I really like it. The bells jingle when I move!

I hope that Santa Paws will forget that I, overlook the fact that I forgive me for tearing up the office furniture at our shop this year. I’m still technically a kitten, Santa, so purrhaps I’ll be better behaved next year….??  I promise to try.

Random Five Friday

Friday again, and time for some randomness:

1.) Motor Man and I went to Indy last week for a racing industry trade show.  It’s a 12 hour drive for us, and we’ve driven it “straight through” several times over the years. This year, we broke up the trip going out there by stopping overnight in Kentucky.  I just love driving through Kentucky with its rolling hills, miles and miles of fencing and, of course, horses. This picture was around the time of sunrise.

2.) We passed through Versailles, and I had to get a picture of the town’s beautiful sign.

3.) It began snowing the night before we left Indy to come home, but thankfully, the roads weren’t affected. Since we were driving the 12 hours in one day, I helped Motor Man drive a few times. But, when he was driving, I managed to snap some pictures along the way – at 70 miles per hour.

4.)  It was imperative that we get back from the show Friday….I had a Christmas Craft Show date Saturday with my friends, Shirley and Donna. We entertained the other shoppers with our Santa hats.

5.) My Christmas preps are coming along slowly, but surely.  Christmas cards were mailed yesterday, most gifts have been bought (but not yet wrapped), and hopefully, the tree will be up and decorated this weekend.

What’s your randomness today?  Ready for Christmas?
