You may recall that we’ve had a roseated spoonbill visiting our yard for the past few months. Apparently, he’s ventured a bit north of his usual environs and, so far, hasn’t been in any hurry to leave.
Last week, Tropical Storm Ophelia passed by our area and gifted us with some high tides. In this photo, you can see the trash left behind after one of those events. The trash shows how high the water had been at one point, and it was still higher than normal when this picture was taken.

One afternoon, the spoonbill and the mallards were out by the water’s edge, and I took my camera out to get some pics.

The spoonbill must have become accustomed to me being out in the yard, because I was able to get closer than I have in the past. It may be because the ducks aren’t afraid of me. I love how well the pink feathers show up in this picture.

I know that probably this beautiful bird will soon head back to warmer climates, so for now, I’m just taking lots of photos. And he’s a very good model.

I sure will miss him when his visit to our area is over. However, I won’t miss Ophelia who is still causing us overcast, misty conditions.
