Windshield Wednesday: Wrong Turn

Friends of ours had been to the mountains on Saturday (the day before we went), and had mentioned a couple of antique shops in the area.  I entered the address of one of them into the Waze app on my phone. We followed the directions, which said to take a left off Highway 29.

Um…..okay….. if you say so….maybe….  But just as we passed the green garbage can in the above photo, we realized that the road was becoming just a little mountain path.  And there was NO way an antique shop was beyond that point.  (When we got home, we checked the area on Google Earth and discovered that little path continues on nearly 3/4 of a mile….??)

We definitely needed to turn around, but how?  I  decided to get out of our vehicle to direct Motor Man, so he wouldn’t end up in a ditch,  or ‘whatever’.

You’ve probably heard of a 3-point turn?  This was more like a 6-point turn.

We thought about going up this driveway to turn around, but quickly dismissed that idea in concern for our safety.

We finally were safely turned around, and within seconds of having driven back  over these railroad tracks, we heard a train passing behind us.

I called the antique shop and told the proprietor about our quandry. He simply said: “Ma’am, could you yell into your phone a little louder?”. And then hung up. (Perhaps he gets this type phone call all the time, and that’s his attempt at humor?)  It was then that I realized we were directly across the highway from his shop.

We should have turned right off Highway 29, rather than left, as Waze instructed. The antique shop was right there.

And if you’re in the area, I would recommend just skipping that particular shop. I found the proprietor to be no more congenial in person than he was on the phone.

So glad you & JR are ok. Doesn’t seem like that man has a very good personality for running a business.

  2. Goodness, that was a wrong turn on all accounts, wasn’t it? You have to wonder if that shop even gets any business with Mr. Grumpy there.

  3. Sorry you ended up at that shop. There are some really nice shops in that area too. Hope you found some.
