Our Twos

Most, if not all, of you know that Motor Man and I were married on February 2, 2002 (02-02-02).  Those two’s have become a fun part of our marriage, and no, he’s NEVER forgotten his anniversary. (Not that he would have, but that was one reason that February 2, was his choice for our wedding date.)

So Friday, we celebrated our 22nd anniversary.

We planned an overnight trip to Snowshoe ski resort, certainly not to ski, but for me to go on a trail ride, and for us to take a buggy ride (no snow for a sleigh ride right now).

For a change, we decided to stay at a bed and breakfast (The Morning Glory Inn) just a few miles from the resort. Thursday, I spoke with the owner and she said they had a vacancy. We chatted, she took our information, and as she was confirming our reservation, she said: “You will be staying in room 202“.  Up until then, I may have mentioned to her that it would be our anniversary, but hadn’t shared the ‘02‘ significance.  As Marshall would say later, that was beyond a synchronicity.

Today, I’m sharing some photos and fun that we had at the Inn and nearby area.  On Wednesday, I’m planning to post about our adventures with the owners, Skip and Peggy, at Autumn Breeze Stables at Snowshoe.

The Morning Glory Inn is located in the tiny town of Slatyfork, West Virginia.  Staci is the owner, and her brother, Scott, and daughter, Savannah, are also part of their amazing team.  All three are as friendly as can be, and immediately made us feel right at home.  Their two canine family members, Rosebud and Ya-Ya, just added to the charm.

When you turn into the driveway, there’s a daunting little bridge you have to cross. I decided to document it by taking a video to share.

The inn is so pretty with the fairy lights, and even more so at night.

The  homey sitting room, one of the common areas. I wish I’d gotten Rosebud and Ya-Ya in the picture.

We were told that Savannah is an accomplished musician and singer, and we were hoping to be able to hear her, but time didn’t allow. This is another corner of the sitting room, the foyer and a glimpse at the dining area.

Of course, we HAD to have a photo taken in front of our room, #202. Thanks for obliging us with this, Staci.

When we arrived in the area, we accidentally drove past the driveway to the inn, and discovered this stone landmark. A little Google research shows that this was a fountain, built by the WPA. Its purpose was to provide travelers with fresh water and/or use it to refill their car radiators. There are also stories of picnics being held on the property around the fountain.

Also nearby was Sharp’s Kissing Bridge, built in 2005, by Ken Gibson. He built it to honor his great uncle, Dave, who used to share stories of stealing kisses under covered bridges. So, of course, we had to honor “Uncle Dave”, too.

We found this humorous little scene right across the highway from the bridge. Well, humorous to everyone except the unfortunate guy left hanging.

As you can see, we had a really fun weekend. Tune in Wednesday for photos of our time spent at the stables.
