This week’s Monday memory relates to a picture that appeared in a supplement to our local daily paper the summer that Marshall was eight years old.

(I’ve shared this photo on the blog before, but it was several years ago, so it may be new to some of my readers.)
The article was about our small library, which, at the time, was located in one of the older homes in town. Space was at a premium, and there was a limit on how many books could be checked out at any given time. In later years, the library would move to a new location in a renovated school building.
Now, for my memories: this photo was obviously taken during the summer. Those little shorts Marshall was wearing were called “jams”.
My top was pink and was a ‘popcorn’ type design. Ah, to be that young again: no wrinkles, no hesitation in wearing sleeveless tops….
I love how intently Marshall’s looking through the books on the shelf, trying to choose just the right ones. The article noted that one of the books he chose was about the planet, Mars.
Another memory, another smile. And can I just ask where the time has gone?

Oh gosh– this brings back memories to me as well. My favorite small town library was in a house as well in the town we lived in when I was in 3-7 grades. I LOVED it. And those jams! I made a lot of pairs of those over the years for our boys! Thanks for the memories!
Great photo….like probably everyone else, I have memories of a little library we used to go to as kids with Mom – it was in an apartment complex – so it was very small but jam-packed with tiny kid-sized tables and chairs and lots of books. I could have lived there because it was such fun finding books and choosing a couple to take home. I can even remember the distinctive smell of the place – homey, old books – not sure what it was but I LOVED it. Thanks for reminding me of my OWN memory by sharing yours!

I remember that sweet pic!! Such good memories for you and Marshall.
good times …. you didn’t mention my rattail – also very stylish at the time !
How precious. Favorite memories of taking Laura to the library. Marshall was precious in his “jams”.
That was the sweetest Library and the Librarian was a gem! Definitely inspired me. Libraries are one of my favorite places. Marshal is just the cutest little fella in his jams. Oh to sit cross-legged on the floor again – and to be able to get up! :)
