Remembering “Flash”

Most of you know that Motor Man and I have traveled to Snowshoe, West Virginia several times. Although it’s a ski resort, we don’t go for that reason, but rather for a sleigh ride.  Our anniversary is February 2, so that’s how we’ve celebrated a few times.  I’ve also done some trail rides there.

Skip and Peggy are the owners of Autumn Breeze Stables there at Snowshoe and always make our adventures fun.

A few days ago, we received some sad news: Flash, the beautiful horse who always pulled our sleigh (or buggy), passed away last Friday at the age of 19.

So today, I’m sharing some photos featuring our memories with Flash.

Our first sleigh ride there was in 2019. Flash patiently waited for us to get a picture with him, Skip and the sleigh.

Winter wonderland in 2021.

This past winter, there was very little snow, so we opted for a buggy ride instead. Flash was in charge of that, too.

One of my favorite memories is Skip softly saying during our ride: “How about a little jingle bell trot, Flash?” And that’s all it took for Flash to step up the pace.  But I don’t have that on any of our videos.

I would imagine that Skip has another horse (or horses) at the stable that will be able to take over Flash’s duties.

But they sure will have some big (horse) shoes to fill.

  1. I’m sure Skip misses him a whole lot and while other horses can learn the ropes (or harnesses!) Flash was the STAR. He’s earned a rest…….and there’s another star in horse heaven now…….
