Monday Memories: My Sister, June

July 25 was the ninth anniversary of my sister, June’s, death. So, of course, she’d been on my mind more than usual the past couple of weeks.

Saturday  night, July 27, Langley Speedway, our local short track, held a ceremony honoring Charlie High, an engine builder and friend of ours, who passed away last fall. Motor Man and I were included in the group of family members, friends and engine customers who gathered in Victory Lane for the presentation naming the track’s inspection building for Charlie.

A couple of days later, this photo was shared on the track’s Facebook page. Behind Motor Man and me is former racer, Phil Warren, who holds the record for seven track championships at Langley.

But what struck me most about that photo was the strong resemblance I bear to June.

This photo of June and her grandson, Ray, was taken in 2010, when she was three years older than I am now.

I guess sometimes we don’t realize how much we ‘favor’ someone until we see it in a photo.

  1. The resemblance is striking……if your hair was gray it would be even more striking…..I agree though, photos seem to reveal a lot more than we see with our eyes sometimes.

  2. When you sent me this pic, I think I replied “there is a resemblance..” but, yep, I can definitely see it with the two photos side by side…

You know I’ll always remember going to the movies with her, and playing computer games at the townhouse a couple of times …

  3. You may, or may not, remember that I “met” your sister June on the Knitting Tea Party forum. I still miss her. You are both beautiful women, both inside and out! Hugs.

  4. As we grow older we tend to resemble other family members. I recently attended a family reunion where I got to see cousins I hadn’t seen for years. I recognized them because they looked like their mothers! I’m sure you miss your dear sister. xo

  5. You do favor June and that is a blessing. Everyone said I look like Connie and sometimes Mama. I couldn’t be prouder. 🌹🌹

  6. I’d never considered that you two favor, but you sure do. June was a sweet lady. Know you still miss her. Your pictures are treasures.

  7. Aww. That resemblance is a wonderful thing. I know you miss her and always will but what a blessing to be able to have your memories and some photos that show how beautiful she was. Thinking of you, my friend.
