Monday’s Memories: The State Fair

Years ago, I went to the State Fair of Virginia….maybe three or four times? We haven’t been in a long time, but I saw an ad for it recently, and the picture I’m sharing today came to mind.

This year the fair was from Sept 27 through yesterday. I really didn’t hear too much about it, but then, we don’t watch TV or listen to the radio very often.

So, a little background about this picture: I was 19, and this was the sweet woman who, about four years later, would become my mother-in-law,and another four years after that, would become Marshall’s grandmother. When I realized that, when this picture was taken, she was 19 years younger than I am now….well, I needed a moment to process that.

This was taken in her dining room, and that’s the kitchen through the open door.

Now….about that dress…. My friend, at the time, and I were shopping one day, and came across these dresses with matching panties…. I couldn’t recall the name, but with some research on Google, I think they were called ‘sizzler’ dresses.

And, oh, those red boots…..

Anyway, my friend and I went on a double date with our respective ‘beaus’ to the State Fair that year.

And yes, we wore those dresses.

What WERE we thinking?

  1. so cute! and those were the hot items at the time.

  2. Well I don’t remember “sizzlers” but I’m sure a lot of boys the year they were popular remember them! Sweet memory.

  3. Pictures always have the stories to tell …. I also like seeing the background – that house will never look that way again …

  4. Those dresses along with “hot pants” were all the rage. We were young and influenced easily by fads, weren’t we? πŸ˜‰

  5. Ah yes, hot pants, I remember them – not sure about that sizzler dress and boots. You were definitely sporting it! Now at the State Fair????

My goodness, fads come and go and come again, don’t they?
