Recently I found this at an antique/thrift shop. I’ve seen them from time to time, but most were a little pricey.
Many of you will know what it is.
This is a salt-glazed pottery salt keeper. I think this one may date from the early 1900’s. Salt keepers were also made of wood or enamel. They were usually kept in an airy location or near the fire to help protect the salt from moisture.
This one was reasonably priced, and the shop owner offered an additional discount, so it came home with us.
No, I won’t be keeping salt in it, but it’s a fun addition to my collection of unneeded junque.
