Motor Man and I have an announcement (for those of you who haven’t already heard): we have a new kitty at home. We said good-bye to our sweet calico, Sundae, last year, just before Christmas. And, for the past few months, we I had kept an eye out for a senior kitty needing to be re-homed.
A few weeks ago, in a local Facebook group, I saw a post by Coco’s family; their daughter had developed a severe allergy, and they were in need of someone to adopt their 10-year old calico.
Since Motor Man and I were going out of town for a few days earlier this month, I asked them to keep us in mind if no one else had spoken for her by the time we returned. (We didn’t want to adopt a kitty, then leave her alone for several days.)
Her owners were in touch with us last week, and last Saturday, they brought her to our shop so we could meet.
She’s probably the most timid cat I’ve ever known.
When we brought her home, we opened her carrier in our guest room, and so far, that’s the only place she’s been even remotely comfortable. But she’s getting there…slowly.
This may be the cutest photo I’ll ever take of her. She had been in the process of bathing, and that hind paw was still up in the air. I took my phone out of my pocket, and just as I snapped the pic, she yawned.
Her most recent family adopted her from an animal shelter three years ago after she’d been surrendered. When I was checking her microchip info online, I learned that her ‘given’ name is Coconut. Any of you with pets know that we tend to give them silly little nicknames. Since Coco has dark paw pads toe beans, one of my nicknames for her is: “Coconut Cocoa Beans”. No, she doesn’t answer to it, but it’s fun to say.
So far, I’m her ‘person’, but hopefully, she’ll soon be comfortable with Motor Man and with Marshall (since he’ll be her caregiver in the future when we go out of town).
I’m guessing Coco may want to take over writing some Monday Morning Mews posts in the future, if nothing else but to get payback for me posting that picture of her mid-yawn.
