Recently, I was in an antique shop and spotted something that brought memories from Marshall’s first Christmas to mind.
I didn’t take a photo of it there, but here’s one I found online:

Marshall was six months old his first Christmas, and we’d seen this toy advertised and thought it would be a cute thing for Santa to bring. As you can see on the box, it played music (Brahm’s Lullaby) as it moved along the crib railing.
None of the stores in our little town had it for sale (and this was long before we were spoiled by online ordering), so I knew I’d need to go to our nearest city to make the purchase. It just so happened that Marshall had a routine appointment with his pediatrician a few weeks before Christmas, so I planned a stop at Sears that same day.
It never occurred to me that his appointment was on….Black Friday. But, with him in his little umbrella stroller, we braved the parking lot and the crowds in the store, so that little train could be under the tree Christmas morning.
And speaking of that morning, Santa also brought this ball, but you can see the train on the left in this picture.

And there’s the train (on the sofa) in the background of this picture. Apparently, the ball was of more interest to our little guy than the train was that morning.

But we did enjoy that train on the crib railing in the days and months that followed.

No doubt Marshall enjoyed the train too after he saw it in operation on his crib! Sweet.

That’s a great memory. It’s nice that you had a picture of it.
I remember none of this ; ) , but it’s sort of cool to think that I went to my first black friday event when I was only 6 months old !
That ball sure did have his attention. Love the train – cute that it ran on the crib rail. Your mention of Black Friday made me wonder if it were as big a deal then as it is today. I don’t remember. I do remember being 7 months pregnant when Marshall had his first Christmas. I love remembering with you.
So cute and a sweet memory for you. When our son was about that age, I remember he wasn’t interested in the toys at Christmas except for one – a small, soft and squishy soccer ball. He seemed fascinated by it and guess what? He became a soccer player playing all the way through college and even afterwards for awhile.
