Last Wednesday, I posted that we were under a Winter Storm Warning, and we were expecting approximately ten inches of snow. Turns out, the meteorologists were fairly accurate this time.
Reports were that, in our area, nine inches was the average. And after trudging out in the snow several times to refill bird feeders, I would agree with that estimate.
The bluebirds were very appreciative of my efforts, and provided me with some cute pics. This is probably my favorite:

But this would be a close second. Mr. Bluebird is barely visible to the far left, but…..this expression on Mrs. Bluebird’s face is priceless.

And this may be the reason for that exasperated look. I had just been out a short time earlier to fill the feeder you can see in the center of the cage in this next picture. But it was snowing so heavily that it didn’t take long to cover up the mealworms.

Motor Man and I teamed up to find a solution. I had a regular bird feeder in the garage. It’s made to look like a wooden porch swing and has a flexible cord hanger. We opened the window, then closed it on that cord to keep the feeder in place up on the window ledge. The feeder was somewhat protected there from the snow. It took the bluebirds only a few minutes to find the mealworms. This was the best picture I could get through the window.

The next day, we ventured up to our shop to check on things there (including our shop kitty, Gypsy), and took a short ride up to Bacon’s Castle for pics.

Okay, we’ve had snow…. now we’re ready for spring (and baby bluebirds).
