Windowpane Wednesday: Sundae And The Ducks

We have a ‘waddling’ of Mallards who has learned that this is a good place to stop for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner.

(As a side note, I’ve learned there are many names for a group of ducks: flock, team, paddling, brace, raft, or sold. It depends on what they’re doing at a particular time.  A group of ducks that are swimming is called a raft. Ducklings are referred to as a waddle, ducklings or a brood. A large group of ducks is a flock. And if they’re flying, it’s a flight flock. Swimming ducks are called, appropriately enough, a puddle.  We just call ours ‘hungry‘.)

And some of ‘our ducks’  know to come up on our deck for special service. Sundae likes to watch them through the storm door. If there are squirrels out there, she’ll watch them in a different way than the ducks. She seems to be fearful of the ducks, probably because they’re as big as she is.

She watches them from the side, rather than directly in front of the door.

I took this little video. If you listen carefully, you can hear the ducks ‘kicking’ around the metal bowl that I use to feed them.

Interpreted, I believe that means: “Quit taking pictures and videos, and bring us some corn. It’s time for breakfast!”
