Windowpane Wednesday: Goldfinch

I was planning to use some recent bluebird photos for today’s Windowpane Wednesday, hoping that my readers wouldn’t be tired of them. (I never tire of seeing or photographing bluebirds.)

But yesterday morning, I had a surprise.

It had been quite a while since we’d seen goldfinch at our feeders.  My friend, Donna (a self-proclaimed ‘bird nerd’) enjoys all species of birds at her feeders, from hummingbirds to woodpeckers.   So I felt very honored that this sweet goldfinch paid us a visit.

I hate that the squirrels had dirtied the water in this bird bath. But Mr. Goldfinch didn’t seem to mind too much.

I was really pleased with this next picture when I uploaded it to the computer and took a close look. I had caught two water droplets in mid-air, as well as the little whirlpool he’d made from taking a sip.

Rest assured, shortly after he left, I went out and cleaned and refilled the bird bath, so he’d have fresh water for his next visit.

Our friend, Janet, gave me a beautiful finch seed feeder for Christmas. Since it is a lighthouse, I decided to wait til spring to put it out.  It’s red and white, so that will make for pretty photos when the goldfinch choose to dine there.

And I’ll be waiting to share that (hopefully soon!) on an upcoming Windowpane Wednesday.
