The Weekend

Hang on: it was a busy one.

Motor Man and I spent Saturday on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. We started with a trail ride (for me) at Esperanza Riding.  My horse’s  name is Mateo.

It was an early morning ride, so the temps were comfortable.  Mosquitoes were an issue, but it’s that time of year. I love Mateo’s tail in this shot Motor Man took.

After my ride, we headed north on Highway 13 to the tiny town of Onancock for the Chamber Fest event.  Our sole reason for being there was to see my favorite band (Sawyer Brown) in concert. I’ve been fans of theirs since the early 1980’s, when they appeared on Star Search. It’s been four years since we’ve seen them in concert.

We were there fairly soon after the gates opened, so we were able to snag these ‘front row seats’ . (In time, I would question my decision to sit so near that huge amp on the right.)

My hubby is such a good sport.

Opening acts included a couple of local performers, then Jefferson Starship. It was during their set that we seemed just a little too close to that amp.

Finally it was time for Sawyer Brown. They are such a fun group to watch perform.

This is what happens when Motor Man has the camera.

I suppose it was because we were all so busy enjoying the music, no one heard distant rumbling of thunder. All of a sudden, there was a sharp lightning bolt, followed immediately by a deafening clap of thunder.  Mark Miller (lead singer for Sawyer Brown) told us we all needed to take cover immediately, and they left the stage. Thankfully, their tour bus was parked just a few feet away. Our vehicle was much further than that, and we were soaked by the time we reached it.  It was disappointing that such a great show was cut short so suddenly. That makes the third time Motor Man and I have seen Sawyer Brown live, and all three times, we’ve left the concert in a storm.

Now, on to Sunday, which was a bit quieter (and closer to home) for us.

Bacon’s Castle held an event focusing on the “Warren years”; the years of the last private owners of the Castle. This included the 20 years that my family lived there.

Tours were free, and it was nice to see photos from that period of time and to just enjoy spending time at the house.

Since it was Grandparents’ Day, Motor Man took a photo of me standing in the same place my grandmother was standing in this photo of her. The steps and door are no longer there, but in the picture of me, you can see where the door was bricked over.

It was a busy weekend, but, as usual, lots of memories were made.
