For my memory photo today, another picture that was shared with me by my great niece, granddaughter of my late sister, Rose. And yet again, I don’t recall ever seeing this one before.

From most of the pictures I see of me as an infant and young child, I’m thinking a good word to describe me would have been ‘grumpy’. I was told that I cried a lot as a baby, so there ya go.
When I first saw this photo, one thing that caught my eye was the background. And from that, I know that this was taken in the parking lot of my grandmother’s little country store.
The white fence you see separated the house that was next door to my Grandma’s (which, for many years, was our Baptist church parsonage) from the garden on the same property.
The next thing I noticed was, if you look closely under my ‘butt’, you’ll see that Rose is apparently wearing a charm bracelet. I cropped and reversed the photo, and you can see that the letters spell “SURRY HS (Surry High School: Rose’s alma mater).

I was trying to determine how old I was in this picture. It’s difficult to tell exactly what the date is: 1954? Or 1955? It looks to me like the last digit was originally written as a 4, but changed to a 5? I’m pretty sure that’s Rose’s handwriting, whatever the date.
Thanks once again, Gale, for sharing these wonderful old photos with me. They are definitely treasures, and I cherish each one.
