Let me just say that yesterday felt like my birthday.
My blog was chosen to be featured as “Freshly Pressed” on the WordPress home page. For my readers who aren’t bloggers, WordPress is the site where my blog is registered. Each day, they select 10-12 blogs to be highlighted on the home page. And yesterday, my post “Saturday’s Storm” was selected.
I wondered why, after being away from my computer for a few hours, I had dozens of comments to approve. These were all new visitors to my blog. How had they discovered it? Then one of the comments congratulated me on being featured on Freshly Pressed. Aha. Then I checked to be sure. Unbelievable.
I was so excited, I took a picture of my computer screen. You know, just to preserve the whole event. And to convince myself that I wasn’t dreaming. There’s my blog – in the bottom right corner:
What you might not be able to read is just below the heading Freshly Pressed: “the best of 395,767 bloggers”. WOW.
In the past, I’ve been thrilled to have 100 views to my blog on any given day. Yesterday, that number reached 1637. And, as I write this even before 6:30 this morning, there have been over 400 views today. WOW.
My excitement is bittersweet. I am thrilled to have my blog receive the recognition, but I wish the subject matter could have been something less tragic.
Thank you to everyone who visited and commented yesterday (and everyday). And to the WordPress editors for giving me an extra birthday this year. And there’s a bonus to this “birthday”; I didn’t turn a year older. WOW.
