Poetic Thursday: A Guy’s First Wheels

Welcome to the first Poetic Thursday of the new year.  Pam and her “boys” over at Two Spoiled Cats gave us this cute photo for inspiration this week:

That certainly brought back memories of Marshall’s “first wheels”.  Here’s my poem:

First Wheels

When I went to see Santa at the mall
I didn’t ask for many toys at all.

I said: “Santa, here’s the deal,
I really need a set of wheels.

I’m getting older now, and there’s this girl.
She’s really cute and she’s rockin’ my world.

But not having a car is such a pain;
on Saturday night, we wanna ‘cruise Main’.”

Santa said: “Well, you’ve been good, that IS true,
so let me see what I can do”.

Well, Santa came through, and the new ride is sweet.
But there’s no room for my girl, ’cause there’s only one seat!

Anyway, Mom says I’m still too young to date,
so I guess cruising Main will just have to wait.

I thought I’d share a couple of pictures of Marshall’s first ride. Christmas morning, wearing the robe my mom made for him. She’s sitting in the background.

And a few months later, boys will be boys. He looks rather proud of himself, doesn’t he? You just have to wonder WHY, but I was glad to get a picture of it.

And his second set of wheels, during the Smurf era. Check out the firefighter’s helmet.

I find myself looking forward to Poetry Thursday every week. Thanks, Pam, for another fun poetry inspiration.
