Poetic Thursday: Bedtime Stories

Thursday again, poetry again, as we join Pam, Teddy and Angel Sammy for Poetic Thursday. You can find them over at Two Spoiled Cats.

This is the cute photo they gave us for today’s inspiration:

Here’s my poem:

Bedtime Stories

Remember reading every night
page after page by flashlight?
Under the covers in your cozy bed;
plots and characters filling your head.

Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew,
Little Women, Black Beauty, too.
You could visit places near and far,
travel by horse, boat, train or car.

Mom said “lights out”, and so you’d pretend,
but you had to know how that book would end.
When you got caught a time or three,
Mom smiled and said: “you’re just like me”.

Years have passed, and you still read at night.
A lamp works better than the old flashlight.
Now there’s no bedtime you have to keep,
so why do you keep falling asleep?

  1. You totally did this photo justice! I knew it would inspire memories in a lot of us – and it has – the more poems I’ve read from our friends today the more it’s obvious a lot of us were “under the cover” readers!!

  2. Great job on this one! You captured that photo perfectly!

  3. Very nice! reminds me of Reading Rainbow ….

  4. Now you know this Librarian and Reader LOVED your poem. You hit on childhood favorites of mine. And falling asleep while reading a good book – the best sleep aide there is. What a perfect poem.
