Poetic Thursday: The Simplest Blessings

It’s Thursday! Time for a little poetry with Pam and her boys, Teddy and Angel Sammy over at Two Spoiled Cats.

Here’s this week’s photo inspiration:

And here’s my poem:

The Simplest Blessings

At first look, you might say
this certainly must be ‘laundry day’.

Blankets and towels, shirts and pants,
but go back and take a second glance.

It’s hard to imagine an open-air closet;
your clothes exposed to wind, rain and grit.

Dry clothes to wear: a reminder today
of the simplest blessings sent our way.

Thanks, Pam, for challenging us again this week.

Poetic Thursday: Silly Man, Silly Poem

It’s Thursday again and time for poetry over at Two Spoiled Cats. Pam and her boys provided this unusual picture as our inspiration this week:

And here’s my silly poem:

Silly, silly man, he accepted a dare
to shovel snow in his underwear.

“Goodness, no,” said his wife, “you’re going nowhere
til you put on a robe, so the neighbors won’t stare.”

He called his buddy, who said: “that’s only fair;
you in your boxers, just too much to bare bear.”

The job soon finished and done with flair,
he’s now warm and cozy in his favorite chair.

Let’s hope he learned a lesson out there,
and this is the end of those ridiculous dares.

Yes, Pam, that was a silly picture warranting a silly poem.

Poetic Thursday: This Kiss

Today is Poetic Thursday over at Two Spoiled Cats. Here is the photo that Pam and her “boys”, Teddy and Sammy, gave us for inspiration this week.

And this is my poem:

How many years since they first met?
And she’s not tired of kissing him yet!

He leans in for a kiss from his bride,
as proud as ever that she’s by his side.

Life is good, just a bump here and there;
wrinkles: they’ve got ’em, and he’s losing his hair.

They’re  in love, though no longer young;
happy together and still having fun.

They have some years on us, but Motor Man and I,
in so many ways, can identify!

I’m heading over to Pam’s blog to see what poems her other readers were inspired to write.

Poetic Thursday: Mabel And Maudine

Time just goes by so quickly; I can’t believe it’s Thursday again. Not only is today Halloween, it’s also Poetic Thursday, hosted by Pam and her boys at Two Spoiled Cats.  I find myself looking forward to Thursdays to share my feeble attempts at poetry AND see what photo Pam has chosen for next week.

This is the picture provided for this week’s poetic inspiration. Cute!

And here’s my poem:

Mabel And Maudine

Oh, what shall we be for Halloween?
I know: you be Mabel, and I’ll be Maudine.

We’ll wear wigs of gray yarn with lots of curls,
and be little ol’ lady little girls.

Glasses and pearls make our costumes complete.
Folks will say: “Aw, you two look so sweet!”

Hmm, wonder how much candy we’ll get,
’cause we can’t even say “trick or treat” yet.

Happy Halloween from Mabel and Maudine!

Poetic Thursday: The Blink Of An Eye

Thursday has rolled around again. Time for Poetic Thursday with Pam and her kitties over at Two Spoiled Cats.

Here’s the photo inspiration for this week’s poem:

And this is my poem:

No More Time Clocks

No more time clocks; no more bosses,
no more watching profits and losses.

No more alarms to start the day,
just friends to visit and games to play.

Each day they meet, and a new game begins,
but it’s the friendship that matters; not who wins.

And to all you young folks passing by:
this will be YOU in the blink of an eye.

Poetry Thursday: Two Little Heroes

It’s Thursday: time for poetry. Once again, I am participating in Pam’s Poetic Thursday over at Two Spoiled Cats.  Please visit Pam and her boys to read the poems submitted today.  Here’s the photo they provided us last week for inspiration:

And here is my poem:

Two Little Heroes

The little girl said, “Just look at him, he’s so very mean;
he’s the biggest bully I’ve ever seen.

Making fun of her and calling her names,
laughing at her when we play games.

It hurts my feelings when he makes her cry.
Why does he do it? Do you know why?”

“No, I don’t,” the boy replied. “It makes me sad, too.
Do you have a plan? What can we do?”

“I know!” said the girl. “Let’s just be her friend.
If the others do that too, the teasing might end.

Let’s stand up against him and show him he’s wrong.
If we do this together, we can be strong.”

“Yes,”  said the boy. “Let’s give that a try.
She shouldn’t be bullied just ’cause she’s shy.”

So the tables were turned on the bully that day,
and two brave children led the way.

They made a change in their corner of the world,
and life was better for one little girl.

If only.

Poetic Thursday: Mama’s Flowers

Once again, I’m participating in Poetic Thursday with Pam and her “boys”, Teddy and Angel Sammy over at Two Spoiled Cats. Here’s the photo they provided us last week for inspiration:

And this is my poem:

Mama’s Flowers

Flowers in bloom make my mind slip away
to Mama’s yard on a summer day.

Roses, iris, petunias, too.
Mom’s thumb was ‘green’, so everything grew.

Two plants that weren’t needed to make her yard complete:
marigolds were too stinky, and gardenias too sweet.

Few houseplants for her that I can recall,
but her yard was in bloom til late in the fall.

Since Mama was raised a country girl,
there were no flower shops in her world.

But she would love this picture with the beauty it shows.
And her favorite flower? Always…the rose.

Click here to visit Pam today to read other “flower shop” poems.
