Poetic Thursday: No Escape

Welcome to Poetic Thursday, hosted by my friend, Pam and her two boys at “Two Spoiled Cats“.

Today, I’m making light of a serious situation.  I feel that it always helps to find a little humor whenever possible.

Here’s the photo for this week’s inspiration:

And this is my poem:

No Escape

 Let’s escape.
Let’s steal away.
Let’s not think about germs for a day.

A tropical isle,
warm, gentle breezes,
no coughs, no sniffles and certainly no sneezes.

Wait: we can’t go.
No travel’s allowed.
And we definitely must avoid any large crowd.

Let’s stay home.
We’ll relax there; it’s safer.
And we can stare at this mountain of toilet paper.

(No, we haven’t hoarded TP.  We shop at Costco, so we already had a pretty good supply.)

How are you managing with your social distancing? Motor Man works alone building race engines at our shop anyway, so we still have that normalcy in our lives. Our racing season was scheduled to begin March 28, but that has been postponed.

We usually eat out two or three times each week, but our restaurants are now take-out or drive-through only, so our meals have been at home.  And that’s okay.

For the time being, we aren’t able to go see “my” wild horses. Dare County, NC has restricted entry to only residents, property owners, service workers, etc. Dare County is adjacent to Currituck County, where Carova (and the horses) are, and we must travel through Dare going to Carova.

We’re hoping the time will pass quickly, and things will be back to normal soon.

So there you have it.  Stay well everyone. And wash your hands.

Poetic Thursday: Meerkats

Welcome to the first (poetic) Thursday of February. Pam and her boys at Two Spoiled Cats threw me a curve with the photo inspiration this week.

I knew NOTHING about meerkats….at all….

Usually, I “work on” my poem all through the week. As of last night, I had NOTHING. But, upon waking this morning, I put together this feeble attempt:

Meerkats

Meerkats is the poetry subject this week.
The extent of my knowledge: they look cuddly and sweet.

So it was off to Wikipedia, where I found
they live in colonies underground.

In search of food, they go out and about
but one member always serves as a scout.

Predator nearby, in the air or on ground?
The scout sends that message strictly by sound.

Homework at my age?  But, yes, it’s true.
Guess we’re never too old to learn something new.

Thanks, Pam, for the challenge this week!

Poetic Thursday: The Simplest Blessings

It’s Thursday! Time for a little poetry with Pam and her boys, Teddy and Angel Sammy over at Two Spoiled Cats.

Here’s this week’s photo inspiration:

And here’s my poem:

The Simplest Blessings

At first look, you might say
this certainly must be ‘laundry day’.

Blankets and towels, shirts and pants,
but go back and take a second glance.

It’s hard to imagine an open-air closet;
your clothes exposed to wind, rain and grit.

Dry clothes to wear: a reminder today
of the simplest blessings sent our way.

Thanks, Pam, for challenging us again this week.

Poetic Thursday: Silly Man, Silly Poem

It’s Thursday again and time for poetry over at Two Spoiled Cats. Pam and her boys provided this unusual picture as our inspiration this week:

And here’s my silly poem:

Silly, silly man, he accepted a dare
to shovel snow in his underwear.

“Goodness, no,” said his wife, “you’re going nowhere
til you put on a robe, so the neighbors won’t stare.”

He called his buddy, who said: “that’s only fair;
you in your boxers, just too much to bare bear.”

The job soon finished and done with flair,
he’s now warm and cozy in his favorite chair.

Let’s hope he learned a lesson out there,
and this is the end of those ridiculous dares.

Yes, Pam, that was a silly picture warranting a silly poem.

Poetic Thursday: This Kiss

Today is Poetic Thursday over at Two Spoiled Cats. Here is the photo that Pam and her “boys”, Teddy and Sammy, gave us for inspiration this week.

And this is my poem:

How many years since they first met?
And she’s not tired of kissing him yet!

He leans in for a kiss from his bride,
as proud as ever that she’s by his side.

Life is good, just a bump here and there;
wrinkles: they’ve got ’em, and he’s losing his hair.

They’re  in love, though no longer young;
happy together and still having fun.

They have some years on us, but Motor Man and I,
in so many ways, can identify!

I’m heading over to Pam’s blog to see what poems her other readers were inspired to write.

Poetic Thursday: Mabel And Maudine

Time just goes by so quickly; I can’t believe it’s Thursday again. Not only is today Halloween, it’s also Poetic Thursday, hosted by Pam and her boys at Two Spoiled Cats.  I find myself looking forward to Thursdays to share my feeble attempts at poetry AND see what photo Pam has chosen for next week.

This is the picture provided for this week’s poetic inspiration. Cute!

And here’s my poem:

Mabel And Maudine

Oh, what shall we be for Halloween?
I know: you be Mabel, and I’ll be Maudine.

We’ll wear wigs of gray yarn with lots of curls,
and be little ol’ lady little girls.

Glasses and pearls make our costumes complete.
Folks will say: “Aw, you two look so sweet!”

Hmm, wonder how much candy we’ll get,
’cause we can’t even say “trick or treat” yet.

Happy Halloween from Mabel and Maudine!

Poetic Thursday: The Blink Of An Eye

Thursday has rolled around again. Time for Poetic Thursday with Pam and her kitties over at Two Spoiled Cats.

Here’s the photo inspiration for this week’s poem:

And this is my poem:

No More Time Clocks

No more time clocks; no more bosses,
no more watching profits and losses.

No more alarms to start the day,
just friends to visit and games to play.

Each day they meet, and a new game begins,
but it’s the friendship that matters; not who wins.

And to all you young folks passing by:
this will be YOU in the blink of an eye.
