Poetic Thursday: The Neighbor

Thursday means poetry here on These Days.  Each week, Pam and her kitties, Teddy and Angel Sammy, at Two Spoiled Cats, host Poetic Thursday. This is the cute photo that Pam gave us last week for our inspiration.

And here’s my poem:

The Neighbor

He’s not my grandpa; he’s my neighbor and friend.
And each time he sees me, he starts to grin.

He hurt his leg, so he has to ride.
We pretend we’re racing, side by side.

He tells me about when he was a kid,
and all the fun, silly things he did.

And then, more stories about his life:
what cars he had, and how he met his wife.

He lives next door, and I sure am glad,
’cause he’s the best neighbor I’ve ever had.

  1. The thing that caught my eye first when I found this photo and thought it was perfect for Poetry Thursday was the look on their faces…..pure FUN. We can have fun if we WANT to at any age! These two are best buddies obviously. Loved your poem – I thought it would be a fun photo and from the poems I’ve read so far everyone seems to have thought that as well!

  3. The BEST!!! Love the look in their eyes – the obvious fun and enjoyment! Your poem captures it perfectly. Reminded me that we used to lap Mrs. Ellis in her red straw hat on her lawnmower as we’d both be cutting grass at the same time! Thanks for the memory reminder.

  4. If only every child had a neighbor like that! 🙂

  5. This reminds me of Pop ….

  6. The best poem ever for this cute picture!!
