Poetic Thursday: This Little Trunk

After a few weeks absence, we are back participating in Poetic Thursday. (Routine doctors’ and dentists’ visits, as well as attention to my outdoor flowers seemed to take precedence during that time.)  But we missed joining Pam, and her kitties, Teddy and Angel Sammy, at Two Spoiled Cats, so we’re happy to be back today.

I have a special fondness for old furniture and furnishings, so it was easy to write a poem about this photo Pam gave us for our inspiration:

Here’s my poem:

This Little Trunk

If this trunk could talk, what would it say?
So many stories from bygone days.

A birthday gift for a little girl;
she packs it and pretends to travel the world.

Time passes, and now she’s a beautiful bride,
her first train ride, the little trunk by her side.

A short year later, the little trunk overflows:
Mommy’s been busy sewing baby clothes.

Decades later, passed around and down,
the little trunk’s now at an antique shop in town.

But today just may be my lucky day:
hang on, little trunk, I’m on my way.
