Another week, another Friday, another Random Five.
1.) Whew! This has been a FULL birthday week: breakfasts, lunches, beachcombing, surprise visits from friends bearing gifts, dinners, family visiting from out of town. Maybe by Monday, I will have rested up enough to blog about it!
2.) I know Facebook isn’t for everyone, but I love how it unites us with our friends. Nearly 100 people sent me birthday wishes on FB. (I realize many of you have lots more FB friends than I do, and 100 may seem a small number to you, but I was pleasantly surprised.)
3.) Groom Swan is acting more like a pet everyday. Yes, he’s looking for bread, and yes, I fed him. Details and more pics next week.
4.) In response to this post a couple of weeks ago, some of my “inland” readers commented that they weren’t familiar with sea glass. It’s any piece of glass, worn smooth by the water and found on the shore. When my friend and I went beachcombing this week, I added this piece to my collection.
5.) A dear friend told me this week that my Motor Man is a “gem”. I’d say she’s an excellent judge of character.

Ever think of how often you write your birth date? Today, as I complete yet another journey around the sun, I’m feeling especially thankful.
This week has already been filled with fun times spent with family and friends.
There are plans for today as well as the remainder of the week. I’ll share details and pics in an upcoming post or two.
At this age, birthdays aren’t anticipated like they were when we were children. (Although I do think, no matter our age, that we all tend to shine just a bit brighter on our special day.)
But having so many loved ones to help me celebrate sure makes this business of getting old(er) just a little easier.

Another week, another Friday, another Random Five Friday. Here’s what’s happening in my world this week.
1.) We had a winter storm Tuesday afternoon/evening, resulting in an inch or two of snow. Motor Man and I took a little drive Wednesday morning to check out our local scenery. This is Jericho Road, one of the little streets in our town.
2.) It’s been a busy week of lunches with former classmates and co-workers. That’s probably the best thing about being (semi) retired; having the freedom to get together with friends.
3.) Last night we celebrated the birthday of one of Motor Man’s sisters. Her two granddaughters were there. This is Lily, who really wasn’t posing in this picture. Precious.
And this is Lily with big sister, Livy. Can you tell we had spaghetti for dinner?
4.) In kitty news, next week, Gypsy will begin writing an occasional post here, titled “Gypsy’s Journal”. Perhaps she’ll explain what Motor Man did not long after this photo of her “hangover” was taken.
And Sundae will have some big news next week, too.
5. Motor Man and I are planning a little get-away for one weekend next month. Anyone care to guess what type of trip we’re hoping to take….? Hint: it’s the same type trip we were on when the photo on my sidebar was taken.
What randomness would you care to share this Friday?

Today, many of us in the blogging world are celebrating the birthday of a special friend.
In case you haven’t met her, allow me to introduce Pam.
Pam is the “mommy” of Sammy, a ginger kitty who writes and IS One Spoiled Cat. Not only is Pam a blogger, she’s also an author of mystery novels and childrens’ books, as well as a very talented artist.
Yes, all that is nice. But Pam is much more than that. Pam is a friend; or “furriend” as the animals here in blogland like to say. She is an encouragement to all of us, and always knows just the right things to say.
Motor Man and I have had the pleasure of meeting and spending some time with Pam and her husband, Dave. (Sammy is a bit elusive.) And she’s just in sweet in purrson as she is here in blogland.
So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my friend Pam, from Sundae and me. We hope you spend the day doing something you love.
We have a lot to celebrate in our family today.
Today is Marshall’s birthday. He, Motor Man and I are planning a birthday breakfast at a favorite nearby restaurant. For several years, we’ve celebrated Marshall’s birthday there with either breakfast or lunch.
Of course, it was just yesterday that Marshall had his first birthday. (Well, it seems that way to me.)
We’re also celebrating Father’s Day today. Although at the time, Motor Man was a family friend, I’m sharing this picture taken of him and Marshall a “few” years ago. I think Marshall was around 6 years old, and he was sitting in a race car that was part of an Open House at Motor Man’s business. (We had no way of knowing that Motor Man would, one day, become Marshall’s step-dad.)
This one was from a couple of years ago. (I love that Marshall is looking at Motor Man in both these pictures…!)
And, finally, we’ll be celebrating Father’s Day later today with Motor Man’s dad.
It’s gonna be a busy day…isn’t it wonderful to have special people to celebrate?
Well, friends, today is my birthday. Funny how, as we mature, we don’t seem to count the days (like we did when we were kids) until we are officially another year older.
Motor Man and I have an adventure planned today; I will share details soon.
He surprised me yesterday with a beach-themed birthday cake. He said he tried to find a horse to add to it, but couldn’t.
Today, I’m also wishing my “birthday twin” a special day. If you missed the post about the two of us sharing a birthday, you can read about it here. Happy Birthday, Marilyn!
In order to ease the pain of adding another year, I’m planning to s-t-r-e-t-c-h out this birthday celebration: dinner with Motor Man and Marshall tonight, then lunches tomorrow and the next day with special friends.
“Pleas’d to look forward, pleas’d to look behind,
and count each birthday with a grateful mind.”
– Alexander Pope
No, I’m afraid a trip isn’t the giveaway….but I hope you’ll keep reading anyway.
A verse I use on some of my handmade cards is: “A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun. Enjoy the trip.”
Today is the first day of another journey around the sun for me, so I’m sharing one of my favorite Martina McBride songs (with Jimmy Buffett).
And now, for the information on my first ever giveaway:
A few weeks ago, I won this book in a giveaway from Simple Life Of A Country Man’s Wife:
There have been times in my life when I’ve been an avid reader, but that isn’t the case these days. But this is one of the best books I’ve ever read, and I was truly disappointed when I came to the end. Hopefully Beth Hoffman has more books in the works for those of us who have discovered her wonderful writing.
This is what I hope to do: I’m giving away this book, hoping the winner will write a little note in the inside cover (maybe their name, the date and the name of their blog), and then share it in a giveaway of their own. If the winner of my giveaway doesn’t have a blog, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.
So please leave a comment here on my blog, letting me know if you’d like to be entered in the drawing. And I’ll have either Motor Man, Marshall or Sundae draw the winning name. The winner will be announced on Wednesday.
And now, I’m kicking off my next journey around the sun this morning with a birthday breakfast with Motor Man and Marshall.
