A few Saturdays ago, my friend, Donna, came to town for our weekly Farmers Market/monthly Pickers Market. After browsing both, we had lunch, then went to visit Motor Man at the shop.
He surprised us with an offer to take us to Cape Charles (on Virginia’s Eastern Shore) for a carriage ride and dinner.
When we arrived in Cape Charles, the rain was pouring. So we changed our plans a bit and had an early dinner at Kelly’s Pub. Motor Man and I have eaten there a few times, including once with Marshall, but it was Donna’s first visit. Once again, the food was yummy, and we love the atmosphere in the 1907 bank building.
The weather had cleared by the time we finished dinner and was perfect for our carriage ride. Our (young) driver, Rayne, expertly handled her horse, Gabe.
Her mom, Julie, accompanied us on the ride and took a picture for us.
After our carriage ride, the three of us drove “downtown” to the beach, overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.
There, we found a LOVE sign. Our state motto is “Virginia Is For Lovers”, so we find these all around the state. It’s interesting to see how difference localities personalize it for their particular area.
A fun pic of us in the tire.
Friends.
Cape Charles is an interesting little town: old houses, beach, shops, waterfront hotels, restaurants, golf cart rentals….the three of us are making plans for another trip soon. We’re thinking the next one just might be an overnight stay.
And I have a feeling Rayne, Julie and Gabe will be involved.
