In Memory Of Motor Mum

Motor Man’s mother passed away Wednesday morning. I shared Wednesday’s blog post, “Setting Sun”, because we knew her time here was short.

After Motor Man’s father died in 2013, we began taking his mom out on Sunday afternoon adventures. I shared several of those here on the blog, and gave her the title “Motor Mum”.

We took her to the Outer Banks, where, even though it was February, she wanted to put her feet in the Atlantic Ocean. (An unexpected wave caught her and Motor Man off guard.)

One autumn trip was to the mountains of Virginia.

Another adventure found us at a farm market where we tried on straw hats.

And we took a (long) day trip to Chincoteague.

During my childhood, my sister lived in Claremont, a little waterfront town village on the James River just southeast of Richmond.  Many Sunday afternoons were spent at the tiny beach there.  One of our Sunday adventures with Motor Mum was to Claremont. Motor Man took this picture of the two of us, and it’s a favorite of mine.

We attended the annual Daffodil Festival in Gloucester, Virginia, a first for us and Motor Mum.  And we bought her daffodils.

She was so active in the community, always doing what she could to help make our county a better place. And more beautiful. Once she took a notion that something should happen, there was little chance that it wouldn’t.

Motor Mum was 91, and her body and mind had begun failing her, so although we’re going to miss her, we find comfort in knowing that she is now at peace.

And with Pop.
