Remembrance Rescue Project

Yesterday, our local fire department (which just happens to be a neighbor of ours at our shop) hosted the Remembrance Rescue Project fire truck.

I wasn’t familiar with this project until we learned last week that our little town is one of the stops on the tour. This is an actual FDNY fire truck that responded to the World Trade Center following the 9/11 attack.

A volunteer group of firefighters salvaged the truck, built in 1996, and is using it to both honor the firefighters lost in 9/11, as well as all those lost in the line of duty.  They also use this to educate children who weren’t born at that time, or who aren’t old enough to remember in details the events of that day.

Motor Man and I compared it to those of us who were very young or not born when the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred.  We just can’t imagine the feelings in our country when that happened.

This is a photo taken of Rescue 4 on 9/11.

Motor Man and I were honored to visit this traveling memorial and make a donation to its cause.

As we stood with other folks from our town, looking at the fire truck and the exhibits displayed, we could overhear people sharing with others where they were and what they were doing when they first heard news about the attacks.
