vErTiGo and IWS

Vertigo – noun
a dizzying sensation of tilting within stable surroundings or of being in tilting or spinning surroundings

Last Friday,  I awoke to a different world. A scary world. A world where lifting my head off the pillow sent the room spinning. Sitting up on the side of the bed was a challenge. Standing was nearly impossible. And walking alone? I don’t think so.

I was unable to focus on my surroundings.

Thinking back, describing it as scary is putting it a little mildly.

Thankfully, Motor Man was there to get me semi-presentable and load me into the car for the trip to Urgent Care.  When we arrived, I refused his offer to get a wheelchair for me. And probably traumatized a little girl in the waiting area as I staggered to a chair, even as Motor Man was holding onto me.

I didn’t refuse the wheelchair that the staff brought to take me back to the examining room.  The doctor diagnosed an inner ear problem, likely caused by a sinus or upper respiratory situation. He gave me a prescription and said I should see some relief within 72 hours. 72 hours? SEVENTY- TWO HOURS of this??

After getting back home to bed, I realized that relief came with lying down, so that’s where I stayed for the remainder of the day.

By Saturday afternoon, I was able to sit in the recliner. Motor Man fired up the old laptop for me. By then, the vertigo was easing just a little, which resulted in IWS: Internet Withdrawal Syndrome. There were e-mails to be answered, blogs to catch up on, and who knows what status updates I’d missed on Facebook?

The doc apparently knows his stuff. By Sunday afternoon, I was able to move around the house without clinging to Motor Man with every step.

And Monday, no more tilting and spinning.

I was back in my world.  And SO glad to be there.
