Laundry Room Surprise

This is our laundry room.

The “cupboard”-looking piece in the back corner is actually a wooden Larkin crate, turned up on its side. If you aren’t familiar with the Larkin Soap Company, you can learn more about it here.

On top of the Larkin Soap crate-turned-table, I have a wooden Keen’s Oxford Blue box. Inside that is a small electric candle, and an old bottle of laundry “bluing” and some small boxes of bluing tablets in a little granite pan. And an African Violet.

The African Violet was a gift from a friend for a special occasion several months ago.  My mom used to grow those violets, but I’ve never had any luck with them. I’ve been carefully watering this one by sitting it in a saucer of room-temperature water at, as instructed. Although I’ve had intentions of buying some fertilizer just for violets, I hadn’t yet done so.

So imagine my surprise a few days ago, when I saw this pretty little bloom.

There are three more buds, just waiting their turn. I just know Mama’s proud.
