High Tide And Lazy Horses

Happy 1st day of June!

Yesterday, Motor Man and I took a day trip to our happy place: Carova, North Carolina.  It was a gorgeous day: sunny and in the low 70’s. We saw 26 horses, including, once again, baby Amelia.   You may recall my blog post from a couple of weeks ago, where I shared a video of her running laps around her mom.

She wasn’t quite that energetic yesterday. In fact, when we first spotted her, she was having a little rest. (*Just a reminder, these pictures were taken with my zoom lens and then cropped once I uploaded them to my computer. I wasn’t nearly this close! There’s an ordinance prohibiting humans from being within 50 feet of the wild horses.)

But she was soon up on her feet and nuzzling Mom.

A little later in our trip, we happened upon this group on the beach. It’s always special to see horses by the ocean.  Once again, one was taking a break. In fact, when I zoomed in on the picture, I noticed that this one’s eyes are actually closed. (Apparently, being a horse at the beach is hard work. Who knew?)

But that nap, too, was soon over, and the journey down the beach continued.

When we were leaving, the tide was a bit higher than we’re accustomed to seeing.  This cottage, “Laughing Gull”, is very close to the ocean, sometimes closer than others. Driving around it when we came by was a single lane, and traffic took turns.

As we drove by.

Another beautiful Sunday: horses, beach, sunshine. Yes, please.

  1. WOW….I remember that cottage on the beach and while it is already “out there” it’s even moreso in this shot thanks to the higher tide. It’s great that everyone takes turns politely! Great photos of the horses on the beach AND baby Amelia. So happy you had a good sunny day.

  5. Oh so lovely! Can’t imagine having a beach house that close to the ocean – WHEW!!! Would make me nervous when the storms blow in. The pics of the horses on the beach are great.
