Today, poetry here at These Days with our friends, Pam, Teddy and Angel Sammy at Two Spoiled Cats. That’s how we celebrate Thursdays.
This is our photo inspiration for this week:
And here’s my poem:
Always Believe
Hush, little ones, please don’t cry,
Santa is really a very nice guy.
He looks a bit scary, we all would agree.
Next Christmas, you’ll be friends: just wait and see.
You’ll climb on his lap with your list in hand.
He’ll remember your tears, but he understands.
He’ll come to visit each Christmas Eve,
on one condition: that you always believe.
When Marshall was a little boy, we had planned to have his picture taken each year with Santa. His first Christmas, he was 6 months old, so no problem there. The following Christmas, at eighteen months, was THE problem. Sadly, in those pre-digital days, we received a notice in the mail that there was a problem with the film, so there was no picture. At that point, we didn’t want to put him (or us) through that trauma a second time. The next Christmas, at age two and a half, all was good. The picture on the far right was taken during a first-grade trip to see the ‘real’ Santa at Miller & Rhoads in Richmond, Va.
