Christmas Angels: Part 1

Angels are one of my favorite Christmas symbols.

I suppose I inherited my Mom ( and her sisters’) love for doing handiwork. Through the years, that’s included crocheting, counted cross stitch and making folk dolls, among other crafts.

So today, and for the next two Mondays, I thought I’d share some of my handmade angels. I leave these on display year-round.

The one I’m sharing today was made when Marshall was just a little guy.

I found the pattern in a craft magazine, and Marshall’s dad cut out the wooden pieces for the angel’s body and arms.

I stained (or painted? I can recall!)  the body and arms blue. I sanded the edges, painted a tiny wooden heart red and added jute twine and ribbon tied in a bow. Her wings are made of paper raffia, and her hair is Spanish moss used for crafting.  How did we manage before hot glue guns?

These were probably gifts for friends ‘back in the day’, but I’m glad I saved one for me.
