Poetic Thursday: Trees, Please

As usual, I’m participating today in poetry with Pam, Teddy and Angel Sammy over at Two Spoiled Cats. Each week, we celebrate Poetic Thursday where we’re given a photo the week before by Pam and her ‘crew’, and our mission is to write a poem about that picture.

This week’s photo:

And my poem:

Trees, Please

House after house in row after row;
cars in the driveways, lawns to mow.

But the first thing that occurs to me:
couldn’t they have left a few trees?*

*(Poetic license: assuming this land was originally wooded and not a field!)

  1. Honestly that was my first thought too – where are the trees? But you’re right – it could be built on an old farm property of many acres or an area that never had trees anyway….still….we tree huggers would sure like to see some TREES! Good job on the poem……I thought this would be a fun challenge.

  2. Great poem. It seems when they build these subdivisions, the first thing they do is bulldoze all the trees. So sad. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, angel Mauricio, Misty May, angel Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy, Sawyer, Kizmet, Audrey & Raleigh

  3. SO perfect! The thought especially! I always wonder why no trees!

  4. AMEN!!!! I LOVE my trees – makes every home so much more homey.

  5. Definitely needs them … no character without trees – just a bunch of McMansions …… !

    No trees make the homes and neighborhoods look naked. Good poem.

  7. One of the first “outside” things we did when we built our home on this plot of land that was a farmer’s field in the past was plant trees! And now they are large and lovely and provide the nicest shade.
