Monday Memories: Autumn

Our yard is currently buried under a thick blanket of leaves. We’re trying to wait til most all of them have fallen before we schedule a clean-up. I recently read that a thin layer of leaves over your yard and flowerbeds is a good thing for the ecosystem and is beneficial to wildlife, insects and the soil. And that we shouldn’t be too quick to dispose of them, so that’s good news.

But with all these leaves around, I remembered a couple of vintage photos of me when I was about three years old, so I went through some boxes and found them.

That must have been a heavy basket of leaves.

I think most parents have their little ones throw up a handful of leaves for a photo.

And, somewhere in all these pictures I have, I’m fairly certain there’s one of Marshall playing in leaves. But, I had no luck finding that one.

So, instead, I’m sharing a picture of him beside a little autumn yard decor.  This was when he was two.

And when I find that picture of him playing in the leaves, I just may post it on Memory Monday….even if it isn’t the fall season.

  1. Well you know how many trees we have around us AND several types of trees hang onto their leaves until WELL past frost and most other trees have succumbed to “falling Fall”. Anyway, our gang will be here on the 22nd to do our leaves and there will still be some left to fall………the bradford pears along our driveway are the last to give up! Enjoyed the flashback photos…..as always.

  2. Love that photo of you in the leaves! And of course, the one of Marshall is darling too. I remember how I used to love jumping and playing in the piles of leaves every fall. Now, we’re warned that doing so may result in ticks on your body and the threat of Lyme Disease. Boo. My hubby mowed our yard one last time and that took care of the fallen leaves as he has this catch-all attachment on his lawn tractor that gathers them up. Then they get transported to the compost pile which in turn will be spread on our garden come spring.

You were very proud of picking up that basket of leaves!!!! Love the picture memories.

  4. You’ll have to post it even if it’s not fall !
Love the black & white BC pics !

  5. I read the same article about the home that the leaves are for little critters that benefit the ecology. Sounds like a great excuse for not raking. Pictures are so cute, and I love to see that one of Marshall.
