Monday Memories: Dirt Digger Days

Back to the early 1980’s for today’s memory photos. I believe Marshall was four when these pictures were taken.

Oh, the memories that come flooding back when looking at these.  First of all, please don’t judge the hair. Yes, that was the result of a perm. Glad those days are gone.

Vintage lawn chairs, and that camera, which took lots of photos of Marshall’s first years.

These were taken at our annual family reunion, which I’ve mentioned many times before here on the blog.

You can barely see my Mom’s face to the far left in this picture. But even that tiny glimpse tells me she was smiling.

Marshall was really into ‘dirt diggers’ at that time.  Anything with wheels caught his attention, but if it was a tractor or a piece of heavy equipment, he was mesmerized. Lots of toy dirt diggers around our house then, and although he isn’t holding one in these photos, you can bet that there were some close by.

I seem to recall that my niece, Donna, gave him this little outfit that summer. And this mama thought it was a perfect gift.

  1. Sweet photos! I remember when my brother (in his 70s now) was a little guy and was very much “into” diggers….then it was garbage trucks…..AND he wanted to grow up to be a “digger guy” and (heaven forbid) then it was wanting to be a “garbage guy”. Mom was less than thrilled.

    • When Marshall was a toddler, our neighbor across the street owned a garbage collection business and drove the garbage truck. His granddaughter was about a year older than Marshall, and sometimes she would ride with him. Marshall was enamored at the guys hanging on the back of the truck, and would stand on the rung of one of our kitchen chairs and pretend to be riding on the garbage truck!

  2. Love the pictures, don’t remember the perm:) What fun! I can see my yard behind you. We always tried to have our yard work done before the reunion – didn’t need that noise when y’all were having such a good time. Yes, your Mom is smiling!!!

  3. The good ol’ days ! – hey, the perm was part of it ; )

I can almost feel the heat in these pictures !

    • What wonderful pictures and memories. What a great man Marshall has become inside and out. I know you all are proud of him.
