Monday Memories: 1974

For this week’s memory, I chose a photo from 1974.

This is a long-haired, early 20’s me with my mom, holding her firstborn great- grandchild, Dale. He was the son of her first grandchild, Lita.

Dale was born in November, so those are Christmas cards displayed on the old upright piano to Mom’s left.

Mom made that blanket/throw on the back of her chair. Those were wool squares cut from discarded clothes, and Mom had sewn them together using a blanket embroidery stitch. Note the picot edge she crocheted. I don’t have that particular one, but I have one she made that’s very similar.

That’s a deacon’s bench against the wall, a gift to her from my boyfriend (the man who would become Marshall’s dad) and me.  We thought she might like to use it on her front porch, but she chose to keep it inside to protect it from the weather.

I love how Mom and I are both staring at Dale and smiling. A baby’ll do that to ya.

Sadly, Dale passed away in 2015, at the age of 40.

  4. That’s a nice window into the 70s – and a good memory of Dale.

  5. How well I know a baby will bring lots of smiles! Our entire family was smiling when we got to meet our new grandson at the beginning of this month. 🙂

  6. A picture full of love and sweet memories.
