Wildlife Wednesday: Duckling Update

Closing out July with an update on the ducklings.

This was one of the first photos I shared of them back in June. Mama started out with seven, but four of them were lost to predators.

Just to remind you how small they were then (when she still had four):

Mama continues to bring them up to the house every day. They’ve gotten so accustomed to me, that if I’m busy in the flowerbeds and don’t realize they’re there, they come right up to my feet. And they can now maneuver the  steps to come up on our deck.

A few mornings ago, I came in the house to get more corn for them, and the storm door didn’t close quickly enough….

Thankfully, I realized what was happening, and opened the door for them before we had any ‘mishaps’. I recorded a quick video of them returning to the deck. (Sound on to hear their sweet little ‘cheep-cheeps‘)

Those little ones sure keep Mama Duck and me busy.

  1. Maybe the coolest thing yet with the ducks ! It’s good they’re so comfortable around you …

  2. So darn cute! They know that “the corn lady” gives them the best snacks around…….so glad there were precious little survivors from this year’s “crop” of ducklings.

  3. That is beyond CUTE!!! It’s a good thing they saw Mama duck first when they were born before they saw you or they might have thought you were Mama for real!!! Obviously, they know they know the welcome mat is always out at your house.
