The Clydesdales

Last week, Motor Man and I had the opportunity to see the famous Clydesdales in person.

They were visiting Olde Towne’s Alibis restaurant in Petersburg, about an hour’s drive from us.  They were due to arrive in the area around 2:30, so we went early to have lunch (delish) and had some time to just hang out in the area to wait for their arrival.

Although we had front row seats from our parking spot, there were SO many folks there for the event, it was difficult for me to get good pics.

This was my first glimpse, before any of them were unloaded from the hauler.

And you can’t tell me that this one wasn’t posing for me. So beautiful.

Kat (or Cat?), the owner of the restaurant, shared some of her photos on the restaurant’s Facebook page.  She was up close and personal, so she had some great pics.  There were THREE of these striking haulers.

And just look at that gorgeous team.

While I was taking pics of the parade, Motor Man took a video. He did a great job, considering how difficult it is to actually see the phone’s camera screen in the daylight.  And that’s yours truly in the white shirt at the 30-second mark.

My only complaint:  it was just over entirely too quickly.

(I couldn’t help but think of my blogging friend, Dianna, and her connections to the Clydesdales.  Her photos have appeared in many of their official calendars, and her husband, Todd, retired a few years ago as a driver of the “West Coast Hitch”. It was so exciting to see him on tv one year during the Rose Bowl Parade.)

The horses were going to be available for a ‘meet and greet’ following the parade around Old Towne, but by then, it was getting late in the afternoon, and we still had an hour’s drive home.

  1. Wonderful peek at those gorgeous horses…..were they on their way to Busch Gardens Williamsburg by any chance? I don’t even know if they still have quarters there but that used to be the highlight of our visits there years ago. Their beauty and grace never cease to amaze……….

  2. Coming up on my anniversary of subscribing to TD o’ M. I have been enjoying your adventures for twelve years now. Since I switched from Blogspot to WordPress, maybe I can get back to blogging so I can share my 52,000 images in my Flickr Album.

  3. That is quick, but they’re so impressive … & going by some of the pics, I’d say they know it somehow …

  4. Aren’t they so majestic? Love them!

  5. What beautiful horses – and that you got to see them pull the wagon. WOW!!! I’ve only ever seen a maximum of 4 at a time. Great outing for y’all.
