Monday Morning Mews: Routine Interrupted

Good morning, readers. Coco here, and today, we’re going to do something a little different here on the blog.  I’m going to write part of the post, and then turn it over to Motor Mommy.

You see, there was an incident here last Sunday evening, and Motor Mommy can explain it better than me.

Thanks, Coco. Yes, last Sunday evening was not our usual quiet night at home.  Motor Man hadn’t felt well all weekend, and Sunday night, around 7:00, he passed out.  I called 911, and by the time rescue arrived, he had regained consciousness. But he agreed to be transported to our (newly opened) local hospital to be checked.

His heart rate was high, so once we arrived, they began running tests. One of those was a CT scan, which showed blood clots in both lungs. He was started on meds by IV, and transported to a larger facility several miles away.

The first night was spent in ICU, and thankfully, I was allowed to stay with him. But there wasn’t much sleeping, because the nurses were keeping close check on him. The following day, he was moved to a regular room on the cardiac floor, because of the continued high heart rate. Later that day, he was diagnosed with A-fib and started on meds for that.  He was discharged on Wednesday, and we thankfully headed home.

Friends and family were in close touch all through this experience: phone calls, texts and emails. Even late that Sunday night (we arrived at the hospital at 11:30), Marshall and several friends were staying up late just to be in touch.  We had many offers of help, and although we really didn’t need to call on anyone, just knowing that so many folks had him (and me) close in thought and prayer meant more than you can imagine.

Our friends, Darcy and Ken, came to visit on Tuesday afternoon, bearing an assortment of things including snacks, puzzle books, socks, Chick-fila nuggets, and an adorable teddy bear.  Motor Man quickly named him “Hemi”. (That’s the engine in my car, AND the name of one of Darcy and Ken’s former horses.)

Now back to you, Coco!

As you can imagine, I had no idea what was happening around here. From being unceremoniously ‘deposited’ by Motor Mommy Sunday evening in the guest room, and the door being shut (while rescue was here), to Motor Man and Motor Mommy being gone for a few days, I just didn’t know what was happening. Motor Mommy did come home for a few minutes each day, but my normal routine was definitely interrupted.

BUT, on Wednesday, they returned, and I was SO happy to see them!  And they brought someone new with them:

They say his name is “Hemi”. He’s cute enough, but he doesn’t have much of a smell. And he doesn’t meow or purr.

Excuse me, something outside the window just caught my eye.

Thanks, everyone, for all you did. It meant a lot to Motor Man and me. And thanks, Coco, for letting me help write the post today.
