Sunrise To Sunset

After what seems like weeks of cool, damp weather, Saturday was a fairly nice day. We were treated to “two sunrises”. The first one:

Then, the clouds and mist rolled in.

And the sun “rose” again.

That afternoon, we had storm clouds, some wind and a little rain.

Afterward, we were treated to this:

It’s one of my favorite views of the marina, and it doesn’t happen often.  Dark clouds to the east, and the setting sun from the west create an amazing landscape.

From sunrise to sunset, the sky put on quite the show.

Random Five Friday

Another week, another Friday, five random thoughts.

1.)  Our weather for the past couple of weeks has been just about perfect.  Sunny with daytime temps in the low 80’s, crisp, cool-ish nights, low humidity and spectacular skies. I took this picture with my cell phone Tuesday evening during golden hour.

2.) I’m not the only one enjoying the nice weather: my company for Wednesday evening’s sunset.

3.) This is one of three “outback” kitties at our shop.  Anyone familiar with ears like that?  The other two kitties won’t get near me, but this one comes when I’m putting out food for them and allows me to get fairly close.

4.) I’m tempted to take a picture each time I see one of my little hummies these days. I know they’ll soon be on their way south for the winter. This one was visiting recently during morning’s golden hour.

5.) Five years ago this week, I registered my blog with WordPress. My first post, This House Has My Heart, was published on September 20, and has a whopping two whole comments.  Five years of blogging: that’s a lotta words and pictures. I’ve made many, many friends, some of whom I’ve been fortunate enough to meet in person. Although I  sometimes struggle for blog topics, I really can’t imagine NOT blogging.  Thanks to  all of you for stopping in to visit.

Happy  weekend!

Equal Time: Early Evening

Since Early Morning had its time in the spotlight last week, I thought it only fair that Early Evening be featured this week.

Late Saturday afternoon, as Motor Man and I were returning home after a ride in the country, the sun was setting over the soybean and cotton fields.

A little closer to town, this little red boat house and the surrounding marsh grass were especially pretty during evening’s golden hour. (Thank you, Motor Man, for spotting this and for making the u-turn to allow me to get the picture.)

And one more shot as we crossed a bridge before arriving back at our shop.

This is such a beautiful time of year, and we still have fall foliage yet to enjoy.

While We Wait….

Well, winter storm #2 is scheduled to hit us later today.   The weather folks are guessing predicting 2-5 inches for our immediate area. Or 7-10 inches, depending on which tv station you watch.

I can’t help but think that, if my mother were here, she’d have a pretty good idea of what to expect. She’d either say that she wasn’t “studyin’ {worrying} about that storm”, meaning that the storm won’t amount to anything. Or she’d say: “Papa used to say when you see {insert reference to some sign in nature}, we were going to have a heavy snow”, meaning we’d better batten down the hatches.

Yesterday, our high temp was 63. Around sunset, I happened to glance out the window, and immediately ran to get the camera out of my car.

As soon as I stepped out of the door, I took this first picture. I was afraid the sun would slip below those dark clouds, and I’d lose that gorgeous golden light on the marsh.

I’ve taken dozens, maybe hundreds, of photos of the marina in all sorts of weather (and shared many of them with you), but I’ve never seen the colors as vivid as they were yesterday afternoon.

And the entire time I was taking pictures, these friends were waiting impatiently for corn. (I fed them an extra amount to fortify them for the storm.)

The light was changing quickly; the dark blues were becoming more aqua.

Quite a change in our weather today. This morning, it’s 26.

And now, we watch and wait…

Friday’s Fences – Old Corolla Village

Although the wild horse tour we took earlier this week originated in Corolla, these pictures were taken when Motor Man and I were  there a couple of weeks ago.

It was just after sunrise, and I couldn’t resist that golden hour lighting.

The sunlight, the greenery and the pristine white homes caught my eye.

And it seemed like the perfect time and place to snap some photos for Friday’s Fences.

January: Late Afternoon

These pictures were taken on January 6, during the golden hour just before sunset.

And as clear and colorful as they are, the photos really don’t do justice to the beauty of the afternoon.
