Monday Morning Mews

Hello, readers! Sundae here with this week’s mews.

I have a special video of “moi” to share with you later in the post. But before I get to MY nmews,  I’d like to announce that there’s a birthday in the family today. It’s Motor Mommy’s niece, Barb’s birthday!  And I think I heard Mommy say that they’re going to have lunch together. (If grilled chicken is involved, I sure hope Mommy brings me a tiny taste.)

Happy Birthday, Barb!

And now…. my video.  My pawrents have a huge old roll-top desk, and Mommy’s computer is on it as well as this tiny lamp.  One day not long ago, I decided, for some odd reason, that the lampshade just needed my full attention.

Let me just say that no harm came to the lampshade.  Until that day, Motor Mommy had not seen me even give it a passing glance, and I haven’t noticed it since. (Or HAVE I?)

We kitties are just impossible to understand: I guess that’s just part of our charm.

Random Five Friday

First Friday in February; let’s have some randoms:

1.) Motor Man and I had yet another celebration yesterday for our anniversary.  We made a day trip to the beach, saw 14 horses and ate sandwiches in our vehicle while looking out at the ocean. (Written in the heart is “we still do. 02-02-17)

2.) We’ve noticed that the sky has been lavender several times this week.  Pretty, but unusual.

3.) And how about this smooth water?  As Motor Man says, “we could run a hydroplane {boat} race out here today!”

4.)This past week, I had reason to call our cable/internet company about a new modem we’d purchased. I know they usually get a bad rap as far as customer service, but I was very pleased with the young man I spoke with on the phone, as well as the one who came to fix the issue.

5.) Today, I’m having lunch with two of my nephews and my niece (their sister) to celebrate her birthday, which is Sunday. I’m looking forward to our visit. Happy Birthday, Barb!

They’re Back….

A couple of years ago, blog awards were all the rage. Some bloggers don’t care for them (and they can be somewhat of a hassle….trying to decide which bloggers to pass them on to, etc.).  Then, the awards just seemed to disappear from the blogosphere.

But, as with most things, they’re beginning to make the rounds again. Recently, I was nominated for two awards by my dear blogging friend, Sam, and his mom, Pam, co-authors of One Spoiled Cat.

The first, The Blogger Recognition Award,  is a new one for me.

Here are the rules:

  1.  Select up to 25 other blogs to nominate for the award
  2.  Post the award badge on our blog
  3.  Tell a brief story about HOW your blog got started
  4.  Thank the blogger who nominated you and link to their blog
  5.  Contact each of your nominees and let them know you’ve nominated them.

As to how my blog began, back in 2010, I had recently discovered blogs, and thought it might be fun to have one of my own.  I’d always liked English/grammar/literature/spelling in school, and had recently become interested in photography. So it all fell into place with These Days Of Mine.

If any of my blogging friends would like to accept this award, please feel free to do so.

The second award Sam and Pam passed along to me is the One Lovely Blog award, which is one that I already have.

And here are the rules for accepting this award:

1-Thank the person who nominated you and link to their blog in the post.
2-Copy the rules and add the blog award badge as an image
3-Share 7 facts about yourself to your fellow bloggers.
4-Then nominate up to 15 people.

After five and a half years of blogging, it was difficult to come up with seven facts about me that my readers don’t already know.  But I think I have — and they are truly random.

1.) I was a total scaredy-cat when I was growing up: afraid of everything.  I slept in the same room as my mom until the night before I was married. I was almost 23.

2.) Although I’ve always preferred cats, I did have a couple of dogs as pets when I was growing up. There was Trixie, a little brown dog, and a collie named (what else?) Lassie.

3.) I was seven years old when I had my hair cut for the first time.

4.) I was a waitress once — for three days.

5.) I’m not a movie fan.  I just don’t like getting taken away to another time and/or place.

6.) I had my ears pierced by a friend when I was 18.  She used an ice cube to numb my earlobes and then pierced them with a hat pin.  Ouch.  But I’ve never regretted having it done.

7.) I learned to drive in a blue Plymouth Valiant (I think maybe a 1961)  with a three-speed on the floor. I remember telling Mom that it reminded me of a blue frog.

As with the Blogger Recognition Award, the offer goes to any of my blogging friends to accept it if you wish.

Thank you, Sam and Pam, for nominating my blog for these awards.

Happy weekend, everyone, and Happy Birthday today to my youngest niece, Barb.

Random Five Friday

Thanksgiving week Random Five:

1.) We’ve had some interesting weather this week: near record high temps one day, heavy rain and wind the next, but thankfully, no snow. This was the sunset on Monday evening (taken through the windshield on our way to dinner).

2.) Seems that RF5 has become a good way to say Happy Birthday to special people in my life. Tomorrow is my niece, Donna’s, birthday. This is one of my favorite pictures of us, taken during a visit a few years ago.

3.) This little cartoon has been making the rounds on Facebook. It took me awhile to “get it”. How about you?

4.) We had guests on the lawn recently. This mama deer has been in our neighborhood for several years. She has a crippled hind leg, and it is so sad to watch her walk. But she’s apparently a mommy once again – to twins.

5.) AND we had a special Thanksgiving guest yesterday. At first, I thought Bride Swan had been somewhere and gotten very dirty. But, after a little research, I think this may be a juvenile mute swan.

I whistled at her the way we do to call Bride and Groom Swan, and she came toward me. I threw out some bread for her, and although leery of it at first, she finally ate some.  A neighbor just a couple of miles away has exotic animals and many different breeds of waterfowl. Maybe I’ll see him around town soon to find out if she was visiting from his farm.

Did you have special Thanksgiving guests?
