Purrfect Furiends

Seven years ago in September, I began blogging. Shortly after that, I “met” (online) another blogger, Pam, who co-wrote her blog, One Spoiled Cat, with her ginger kitty, Sammy.

Pam and I became fast friends and began emailing each other every day. She and her husband, Dave, live about three hours from us.  Motor Man and I have met them several times for lunch and antiquing, they visited and stayed overnight in our little town several years ago, and last summer, we gave them a quick tour of the Outer Banks, including a visit to “my” wild horses.

Sadly, Sammy passed over Rainbow Bridge last December. Pam continued to write her blog, keeping Sammy’s memory alive.  When she and Dave were ready, Angel Sammy “arranged” for them to be adopted by a new ginger kitty, whom they named Teddy. And now, the title of her blog is Two Spoiled Cats: Sammy and Teddy are co-authors.

Although emailing is a wonderful means of keeping in touch, sometimes you just need to see each other in person….and share a hug. So yesterday, my Motor Man drove three hours each way so that we could visit Pam and Dave. AND…..I could meet their new kitty, Teddy.

And what a love bug he is.

Sammy was always very shy, so we never had a chance to meet him.  But Teddy certainly isn’t shy and  greeted us soon after we arrived.

I LOVE this picture of Pam, but I hate that Teddy’s eyes reflected in the camera’s flash.

We forced ourselves to leave Teddy long enough to go have a yummy lunch with Dave and Pam in downtown Warrenton.

Afterward, we toured the Fauquier County museum at the old jail, portions of which were built in 1808. It’s reportedly haunted, and although I can’t attest to that, it is….spooky.

We then returned to Pam and Dave’s for more Teddy time. (Note the red laser dot between his paws.)

I am so thankful for the friendship Pam and I share, and that our husbands enjoy each other’s company.

We’re already looking forward to our next get-together.  Hopefully SOON.

Monday Morning Mews: Welcome, Teddy

Hi, readers!  It’s Sundae AND Gypsy both today bringing you a very special Monday Morning Mews.

You may recall previous posts about Motor Mommy’s dear friend, Miss Pam, who, along with her kitty, Sammy, write the blog One Spoiled Cat.  Miss Pam and our mommy met through their blogs several years ago, first as online friends, and soon, they became personal friends.

Sadly, Sammy crossed Rainbow Bridge back in December. Miss Pam and her husband, Mr. Dave, were heartbroken, as were all of the many friends she had made through blogging.  She and Mr. Dave knew they would adopt another kitty when the time was right, but that didn’t happen right away.

And…finally! Last week, they made a trip to their local animal shelter, and right there and then,  they were adopted by Teddy, a sweet little ginger kitty who looks very much like their beloved Sammy.  Not only is Angel Sammy still helping write the blog (now Two Spoiled Cats), but he is also Teddy’s guardian angel.

There’s a special blog hop this week to welcome Baby Teddy Kimmel to the blogosphere. And both of us, along with our pawrents, wanted to participate.

This is from Motor Mommy: Teddy, I just want you to know that when I read your mom’s email to me that they had found you, I was teary-eyed as I shared that with Motor Man.  And, he has such a soft heart, he was touched as well.  We both know how much your pawrents wanted to welcome a new furbaby into their family.

Sundae here, and this is my message to Angel Sammy and Little Teddy:

Gypsy here, and it’s my turn:

And I have a pee ess:

Motor Mommy: Ummm….sweet Gypsy, I’m sure Teddy will have lots of girl kitties wanting to be his special friend. And, he’s quite a bit younger than you, too, remember?

Welcome, Teddy! We are so happy for all of you, and know that you will bring much love and joy to your pawrents!  We look forward to your Mom’s future posts sharing your antics and lots of pictures.

Appreciating Pam And Sam

Today, I’m participating in the first ever “Anipal Appreciation Day”. This is a blog meme offering an opportunity to write about your friends in the animal blogging world.

Because of animal blogs, I met my friend Pam.  She and her ginger kitty, Sam, write One Spoiled Cat.  I really can’t remember exactly when Pam and I discovered each other’s blogs, but it seems that, once we did, we instantly became friends.

You will, most likely, recall that Motor Man and I have met with her and her husband, Dave, on several occasions.  We usually plan to visit a town somewhere halfway between their home and ours, browse at a local antique mall and then have lunch together.

We’ve also been to visit them, and they made a trip to see us a couple of years ago, so we could show them around our town.

And, although their kitty, Sammy, has many girlcatfriends in the blogging world, he and our calico girl, Sundae, have been on several (virtual) dates.

Our lives are different in several ways. Pam’s dad was military, so she’s lived all over the world, whereas my roots are deep here in southeast Virginia.  Pam is an artist; I can’t draw a straight line.  She is a published author; I struggle to write a blog. Pam’s a great cook; Motor Man and I eat out.

But, she and I also have quite a bit in common, not the least of which are blogging and the love of cats. And those two things, combined, were the basis of our friendship. Pam and I email each other several times a day. She is a special friend, and I’m so grateful to the animal blogging world for introducing us to each other.

So, even though my blog isn’t a true “animal blog”, I wanted to participate in this meme today.  One Spoiled Cat is a very popular and well loved blog, and, knowing Pam,  it’s easy to understand why that is.

If you don’t already follow her Sam’s blog, you should pay them a visit. Chances are, you’ll come away with a new friend.

Meeting In The Middle

You may recall reading about my blogging friend, Pam. She assists her kitty, Sam, in writing the blog One Spoiled Cat.  Pam and I became friends several years ago; I think Sam and I began blogging around the same time.

Pam and her husband, Dave, live about three hours from us. On several occasions, we have met somewhere in the middle for lunch and a bit of antiquing.  Last week, we met in Ashland, Virginia.  It’s about a 90-minute drive for each couple, so that seemed to work well.

The antique shop was nice; an employee met us at the door with: “We have fresh coffee if you’d like some” spoken with a southwestern Virginia accent. After a quick once-over of the shop, Motor Man and Dave found a semi-comfortable bench on which to sit and chat.

Pam and I perused the shop a bit more slowly than our hubbies did. They overheard: “Ooh, isn’t this cute?” and “Hmm, what do you think this is?” and “We used to have one of these!”   Pam and I share emails everyday, so you wouldn’t think we’d have a lot to talk about when we meet in person.  But you would be wrong.

When we finished at the antique shop, we ventured across the street for lunch at what may be the smallest restaurant either of us had ever seen.  And over that tiny table, we exchanged Christmas gifts, then enjoyed a yummy lunch.

Pam took  this picture of Motor Man and me:

I took this one of the two of them:

And we commandeered a fellow diner to take one of the four of us:

When I began this blogging adventure over five years ago, I never realized that it would result in such a special friendship. Pam is one of the sweetest people I know.

The friendship we share is a wonderful by-product of this blogging hobby.

Focusing On The HAPPY

Recently, the news seems to be more depressing – and frightening- than ever. I don’t need to go into detail; our world is so small, you can’t help but hear or read about all that’s happening.

So today, I’ve decided to focus on the HAPPY, as in HAPPY BIRTHDAYS: two of them, in fact.

My dear friend, Pam, has a birthday today, and I’m wishing I didn’t live so far away, so I could help her celebrate. But I’ve promised her that we’ll have a big celebration the next time we’re together, which, I hope will be soon. If you don’t already follow her her cat, Sam’s, blog, One Spoiled Cat, how about stopping by today and leaving her a birthday wish?

Also, celebrating his very FIRST birthday today, is my great, great nephew, Jase, whom you may recall I met for the first time in June, when he and his parents visited from the west coast.

Happy Birthday, Jase! Play us some HAPPY music!

Yep, today I’m avoiding the news (as much as possible) and focusing on the HAPPY.

Little Did I Know

Late yesterday, I received notification from WordPress that it was my anniversary: four years ago I registered my blog. It was a few days later that I published my first post.

During those four years, there have been over 1200 posts, 23,000+ comments and more than 38,000 views  here on These Days.

Little did I know four years ago that blogging would become such an important part of my life.

One of the most pleasant aspects of being part of the blogging world is actually meeting other bloggers in person.  One of the first that I met (both online and in person) was Pam, author (well co-author, along with her cat, Sam) of One Spoiled Cat.

Pam is such an encouragement to me. We e-mail each other everyday and share things that are happening in our lives – exciting things like what we’re doing (laundry, housework) and what we’re having for dinner. We’re both Virginians, but we live a few hours apart. She and I, along with our husbands, have met in person several times, and Motor Man and I consider her and Dave great friends. Oh, and Sundae is Sam’s “virtual” girlfriend.

Last summer, I had the pleasure of meeting Sheila, whose blog is Grace And Space. Sheila lives in Alaska, but was on vacation in Williamsburg, and we met for lunch.

Earlier this year, Motor Man and I met Dorothy and Pat (aka Beatrice and Grenville Boyd), who co-write The Frog And The PenguINN.  They live in a beautiful old home on the Eastern Shore and were visiting our area.

Another Virginia blogger is Patti, whose blog is A New Day Dawns. Patti lives in Virginia Beach, and she and I have met for shopping and lunch a couple of times.

And, most recently, Georgette Sullins, author of a blog by the same name, visited family in northern Virginia. Georgette lives in Texas, so we couldn’t let the opportunity to meet pass us by.  Motor Man and I met her and some of her family members for lunch.

There are several others in my blogging world that I’m anxious to meet, and hopefully that will happen.

Thanks to all of you (both bloggers and non-bloggers) for reading, commenting, mentioning the blog when you see me in person, and to those of you who just quietly visit.

Sometimes I struggle with what to blog about tomorrow, so who knows how much longer I’ll keep at this? I sometimes wonder how many more swan, kitty, horse, sunrise and sunset photos my readers can bear to see.

But these four years have really been fun, so for right now, I guess you’re all stuck with me.

Friends, Kitties And Treasures

You may recall that a few weeks ago,  Motor Man and I met my blogging friend, Georgette, and members of her family in Hanover  Va, for lunch at Hanover Tavern.

That day, Motor Man also stopped me by Through The Garden Gate Antique Mall, located just a few miles from the Tavern.

I mentioned all this to another blogging friend, Pam, mom to Sammy, One Spoiled Cat. Since the distance to Hanover is about the same for Motor Man and me as it is for Pam and her hubby, Dave, we decided that it would be a good destination for a visit. And yesterday, we did just that.

We met in the parking lot of the antique mall, arriving a few minutes before they opened.

Pam and I meandered around together, while the guys (as guys will do) made quick work of the mall. Motor Man quickly returned to the area where Pam and I were browsing when he heard us “oohing” and “aahing” excitedly. He knew that I was responsible for most of the oohs and ahs. THIS was what I had found (this picture was taken in the parking lot after my purchase):

pam db stamp set 8-19-2014 11-09-26 AM

A vintage rubber stamp set, with LOTS of stamps…some images, some words, in a neat old wooden box. I can’t wait to try them with my ink pads. I bought a couple of other small items, which I’ll tell you about in a future post. Pam and Dave bought a picture that reminded them of their kitty, Sam.

We then traveled the few miles to Hanover Tavern, where we enjoyed a yummy lunch and had a very nice visit. Pam asked for a picture of us.

And I returned the favor by taking this one of her and hubby, Dave.

And, of course, we had to have one of the four of us together.

four of us 8-19-2014 1-00-36 PM

Pam has been a good friend for several years (ever since we “met” in this wonderful blogosphere). We don’t get to see each other in person too often, but when we do, it’s always a good time.

And then, we all went home to our respective kitties and answered to them for our whereabouts all day.
