Wilde Horsey Wednesday

*Edited:  The title of this post has been edited due to a trademark issue.

Today, I thought I’d share some photos from our recent outings to the Corolla area of the Outer Banks.

Is it any wonder that this is one of our favorite places for a day trip? On the other side of this dune is the ocean.

Safe to say, the scenery is pretty enough as is, but it’s greatly improved when wild horses are included.

I’m not sure what was happening in this next picture, but I thought it was an interesting shot. (Once again, my photos are taken with a “zoom” lens, then cropped once they’re downloaded.  I’m not nearly as close to the horses as it appears.)

We saw these two up on a dune with quite a congregation of cattle egrets.

Back by the ocean, Motor Man had stopped so I could take pictures, when this beauty came strolling by us.

Ah…..’nuff said.

Winter Horses

Saturday, Motor Man and I made a quick trip to the Outer Banks.

You could say that we had the beach to ourselves. (We’ve never seen as many tree stumps as we did this time.)

We saw ten horses, including these three in one of the canals.

And this one, strolling along in a patch of snow.

I loved this furry fella in the yard of a beach house; he’s needed that winter coat with all the cold temps this year.

In a few weeks, this beach will be bustling with people.

But, Saturday, it was almost all ours.

Black Friday: Our Way

Many several years ago, I accidentally went shopping (for one item) on the day after Thanksgiving. (It wasn’t even called Black Friday then, as I recall.)  I stopped at Sears to buy a Fisher Price train to travel along the rail of Marshall’s crib.

I promised myself then that the day after Thanksgiving would never again be a shopping day for me.

Allow me to share how Motor Man and I spent our Friday morning last week.

Look! No crowds:

 No doorbuster sale signs.

The food court:

No hurrying or scurrying for bargains here:

And no traffic jams in the parking lot:

Continuing our stress-free day, on the way home, we stopped for a visit with sweet Aggie.

I saw this cartoon on Facebook; my apologies to any readers who may actually enjoy the frenzy of shopping on Black Friday.

The Beach….And Aggie

Saturday, Motor Man and I made a day trip to the Outer Banks. It was a beautiful day, and the sand was perfect for driving on the beach. We didn’t use four-wheel-drive for the majority of the ride.

We weren’t able to do much driving on the “back roads” off the beach. There had been so much rain recently in that area, there were LOTS of “sippy holes” like this one. When this is looming ahead of you, you definitely take an alternate route. Unless, of course, you’re like this guy, who later wished he had.

I thought I’d share this series of pictures of us driving across a dune back onto the beach. Picture 1:

Picture 2: getting a “runny-go”:

Picture 3: can we make it?

(Yes, we made it.)

We didn’t see one, single, solitary wild horse, so I was, obviously, disappointed about that.  It’s a good thing we stopped to see sweet Aggie both heading to the beach and coming back home.

It seems that Aggie has quite a fan club. I posted a picture and comment about her birthday on an Outer Banks Facebook page, and, at last check, it had more than 200 likes. Go, Aggie!

Tune in tomorrow for news about our most recent Sunday adventure with Motor Man’s Mom.

Sunrise Saturday – OBX

Since most of my posts this week have been about our trip to the Outer Banks last weekend, you probably aren’t surprised to learn that today’s Sunrise Saturday post features an OBX sunrise.

Actually, these were taken quite awhile after sun-up. But I thought the clouds made for a pretty sky.

We were on our way to meet our friends for breakfast. If you’re familiar with the Outer Banks, you know that there’s a bypass and there’s a beach road. We were driving on the bypass, but decided to take a quick detour down to the ocean.

Motor Man pulled over, and I trekked across the sand to get pictures. And yes, I got sand in my shoes.

Hmm. How long til summer?

Although I was just a child when this wonderful Drifters tune was getting airplay, once I discovered it, it became one of my all-time favorite songs:

They just don’t write ’em like that any more.
