Random Five Friday

Five randoms for a hot, humid July Friday.

1.) In our area, the heat index has been over 100 for the past few days.  Early morning is just about the only time to do anything outdoors when that is the case. Bonus: that’s usually a gorgeous time of day.

2.) One of my outdoor chores recently has been trying to cover some of my plants in netting to protect them from these critters.  The deer repellent sprays I’ve been using in the past seem to be ineffective these days. (Yes, the deer are very charming.  And equally as destructive.)

3.) Bacon’s Castle is always beautiful in my eyes, but on a recent day, the white clouds in a perfectly blue sky made for an amazing backdrop.

4.) I think this weekend will be spent purchasing a new computer. “Someone” has so many pictures on this one, it’s running low out of storage space.  That same “someone” is dreading the change.

5.) This post began with a sunrise, so it’s only fitting that it end with a sunset.  Last week, my niece and her son visited, and they joined Motor Man and me for a sail on the tall ship, Alliance, out of Yorktown.  That is the George P. Coleman bridge in the background.

Happy weekend, stay cool and feel free to share any randoms you may have.

“Falling” For A Pretty Sunrise

Monday morning, as Motor Man and I were opening the curtains, we noticed how pretty the sunrise sky was.

I grabbed the camera and headed toward the back door.  Since I keep a pair of flip-flops by each door, I slipped those on and went out on the deck.

After taking a picture….

….I turned to go back inside.  And that’s when my foot hit the patch of frost.

Isn’t it amazing how quickly and how hard we can “be seated”? Thankfully, nothing was broken or bruised.

And since no one saw me fall, even my pride was spared.

Eyes On The Skies

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared photos of sunrises or sunsets, so today seems like a good day to do that.

This was the sunrise one recent (very humid) morning.  In the next few weeks, the sunrise location will change, so we won’t have such a clear view.

The sunsets have been pretty nice, too.  Just as the sunrise location changes with the seasons, so does the one for the sunsets.  We don’t see the sunsets as well during the fall/winter months.

This next picture was taken “on the road”.  Motor Man and I were crossing a nearby bridge one morning just after sunrise. This cottage replaced one that washed away during a hurricane several years ago.

One of my Facebook friends recently posted a photo of a cloud that resembled a flying fish.  I, too, have noticed some “animal-shaped” clouds recently. I thought this one looked somewhat like a wild boar.

And I was undecided about the cloud in the center of this next photo.  My first thought (of course) was that it looked like a horse. But, then, once I uploaded the pictures to my computer, I saw a dragon. (He even seemed to be breathing fire…)

The sky is sometimes a busy place.  Do you find yourself looking for shapes within the clouds? It’s a leftover pastime from our childhood, I suppose.

Every Picture…

They say that every picture tells a story, so goodness knows, I have lots of stories stored on my computer. Today, I’m sharing a few that don’t really warrant blog posts of their own.

Motor Man and I were up and at our shop very early a couple of weeks ago. The sun was rising across the street, but how to get a photo with all the buildings, electric lines, etc?   Somehow I managed. (The lamp post is located at the bank across the street from our shop.)

I’m not sure what had caught Sundae’s attention outside the living room window one evening last month.  I took this picture just because she was standing on the back of the chair, peering out the window. When I uploaded the photo, I immediately noticed the reflection of her eyes.

A photo from the morning of our hot air balloon ride, obviously, before Motor Man and I climbed in the basket.  We launched from nearby Windsor Castle Park where several old barns are located.  I stepped between a couple of them to get this picture.

Yes, I’m still “at war” with the deer, trying to keep them from munching away on all my plants.  But, it’s a love/hate relationship.  How can you not love this little cutie? (At least when you aren’t actually catching him in the act of eating your plants.)

And last but not least, a dramatic sunset from one evening last week.  This story could be titled: “hot and dry with a tease of a storm”.

Remember to capture those little “stories” whenever you have the opportunity!

Random Five Friday

Five randoms for the final Friday in April:

1.) Last weekend, there was an air show at a local Air Force Base.  Although we didn’t actually attend the show, we did stop for awhile in the area after lunch on Sunday with Motor Man’s mom.  We caught some of the stunt planes in action.

2.)  A recent soft sunrise:

3.) Gypsy and I took a few selfies one day this week.  We obviously need a little practice: neither of us knew where to look.

4.) On my way home from an appointment Wednesday afternoon, my low tire pressure warning light/alarm on my dash let me know there was a problem.  I pulled over at the village post office, and immediately upon opening my door, heard the air hissing out of the tire.  In less than a minute, this happened.  See that little silver object at the top of the tire?  That’s the business end of an X-acto knife.

I called Motor Man, and he arrived in a few minutes.  A very nice young man who lives next door to the post office saw us and offered to help. He soon had his floor jack and tools there to put the “run-flat” on until we could get to the repair shop. No repairing this tire: we had to buy a new one.

5.) We currently have two Canada Goose couples in our yard, and each couple has two goslings.  Yesterday, I glanced out to see this cute sight: a baby asleep on Mom (or Papa). The other parent  was sleeping nearby, but I couldn’t see where the second little one was.

Random Five Friday

Closing out the week with five random thoughts:

1.)  You’re never too old to daydream. Nearly three years ago, friends of ours introduced us to friends of theirs who own a Gypsy horse farm. After we visited, I began following them on Facebook. Yesterday, they posted that they’re offering this 3-year old colt, named Bolt, for sale.  Alas, it’s only a daydream: I’m too old, have nowhere to keep him, no time to take care of him…. but isn’t he one of God’s most beautiful creatures?

And, he has blue eyes. Sigh…….a girl can dream…..

2.) The weather recently has been unbelievably nice. And the sunsets beyond gorgeous. This one was March 9:

And this was Wednesday evening’s.

sunset 3-16-2016 6-18-24 PM

3.) Next week, I’ll share a post about our most recent day trip. It involved an early morning; we were about an hour from home when we caught the sunrise.

sunrise 3-17-2016 6-13-11 AM

4.) I’m still adjusting to the time change, waking (for some reason) every morning between 3 and 4 am.  Thankfully, most mornings, I do catch another couple of hours of sleep.  I remember when I was a child, and Daylight Savings Time began, my mom and grandmother would often say: “Well, it’s only {for example} five o’clock by the sun.”  Now, when I compare the actual time to what time it is by the sun, I think of them and smile.

5.)  Motor Man is always sharing funny stories from his childhood with me.  This past week, he shared one I hadn’t heard.  When he was a young boy, he lived on a fairly busy street.  He and his buddies partners-in-crime would occasionally crouch down between parked cars and when a car would pass by, they would make the sound of a police siren.  Well, of course, I had to get him to re-enact for me.
