Random Five Friday

Today’s five randoms:

1.)  On this Veteran’s Day, we honor those who are serving and have served our country, and we remember those veterans who have passed on. Sadly, I think we tend to take our freedoms for granted in this country.

2) Today, I’m also remembering my cousin, Lona, who passed away three years ago today. I think of her often and still miss her so much.

3.) Motor Man and I were recently, once again, invited to the Blessing of the Hounds prior to a fox hunt at Bacon’s Castle. I, of course, took many, many pictures, some showing the dozens of horses and riders who participated.  But this is one of my favorites.

4.) It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a sunrise or sunset picture.  So here’s one of a recent sunset from our yard, complete with an anchored sailboat in the distance.

5.) Tomorrow is the Autumn Vintage Market on Main Street in our little town, rescheduled from last month when Hurricane Matthew paid us a visit.  My friends, Donna and Shirley, are planning to come to attend. It’s become a huge event with live music, antiques and just “vintage” items. We’re hoping to find some  new-to-us treasures. And if not, we’ll still enjoy browsing and lunch afterward.

Care to share your plans for the weekend?

Eyes On The Skies

It’s been awhile since I’ve shared photos of sunrises or sunsets, so today seems like a good day to do that.

This was the sunrise one recent (very humid) morning.  In the next few weeks, the sunrise location will change, so we won’t have such a clear view.

sunrise 8-16 8-16-2016 6-34-45 AM

The sunsets have been pretty nice, too.  Just as the sunrise location changes with the seasons, so does the one for the sunsets.  We don’t see the sunsets as well during the fall/winter months.

This next picture was taken “on the road”.  Motor Man and I were crossing a nearby bridge one morning just after sunrise. This cottage replaced one that washed away during a hurricane several years ago.

One of my Facebook friends recently posted a photo of a cloud that resembled a flying fish.  I, too, have noticed some “animal-shaped” clouds recently. I thought this one looked somewhat like a wild boar.

And I was undecided about the cloud in the center of this next photo.  My first thought (of course) was that it looked like a horse. But, then, once I uploaded the pictures to my computer, I saw a dragon. (He even seemed to be breathing fire…)

The sky is sometimes a busy place.  Do you find yourself looking for shapes within the clouds? It’s a leftover pastime from our childhood, I suppose.

Every Picture…

They say that every picture tells a story, so goodness knows, I have lots of stories stored on my computer. Today, I’m sharing a few that don’t really warrant blog posts of their own.

Motor Man and I were up and at our shop very early a couple of weeks ago. The sun was rising across the street, but how to get a photo with all the buildings, electric lines, etc?   Somehow I managed. (The lamp post is located at the bank across the street from our shop.)

I’m not sure what had caught Sundae’s attention outside the living room window one evening last month.  I took this picture just because she was standing on the back of the chair, peering out the window. When I uploaded the photo, I immediately noticed the reflection of her eyes.

A photo from the morning of our hot air balloon ride, obviously, before Motor Man and I climbed in the basket.  We launched from nearby Windsor Castle Park where several old barns are located.  I stepped between a couple of them to get this picture.

Yes, I’m still “at war” with the deer, trying to keep them from munching away on all my plants.  But, it’s a love/hate relationship.  How can you not love this little cutie? (At least when you aren’t actually catching him in the act of eating your plants.)

And last but not least, a dramatic sunset from one evening last week.  This story could be titled: “hot and dry with a tease of a storm”.

Remember to capture those little “stories” whenever you have the opportunity!

Random Five Friday

Five randoms for the first Friday in June:

1.)  Wednesday evening, I was outside taking pictures of the sunset.  And Motor Man was at the back door with his cell phone, taking pictures of the sunset…and me.

2.) Wednesday morning, when I opened the curtains, I saw a deer.  On. Our. Deck.  Apparently, I caught him just in time, because he hadn’t eaten my Asiatic Lilies or potted hydrangeas .  Motor Man and I rigged up some deer deterrents, hoping to keep them from visiting our deck again.

3.)  You may remember this pretty old red barn that I share photos of occasionally.  Recently, we were taking a drive on a day when the clouds were exceptionally nice.  That old barn begged for another photo.

4.) What’s Gypsy been up to recently?  She’s just hanging around.

5.)  My birthday is this weekend. And I’ve already begun celebrating. I had lunch with my niece on Wednesday.  Today, it’s lunch with friends, and, tonight, dinner with Marshall. Then a little adventure with other friends this weekend. I’m always reminded of this song when my birthday rolls around.

Happy first weekend of June…now if we could just have some nice summertime weather…

Random Five Friday

Closing out the week with five random thoughts:

1.)  You’re never too old to daydream. Nearly three years ago, friends of ours introduced us to friends of theirs who own a Gypsy horse farm. After we visited, I began following them on Facebook. Yesterday, they posted that they’re offering this 3-year old colt, named Bolt, for sale.  Alas, it’s only a daydream: I’m too old, have nowhere to keep him, no time to take care of him…. but isn’t he one of God’s most beautiful creatures?

And, he has blue eyes. Sigh…….a girl can dream…..

2.) The weather recently has been unbelievably nice. And the sunsets beyond gorgeous. This one was March 9:

And this was Wednesday evening’s.

sunset 3-16-2016 6-18-24 PM

3.) Next week, I’ll share a post about our most recent day trip. It involved an early morning; we were about an hour from home when we caught the sunrise.

sunrise 3-17-2016 6-13-11 AM

4.) I’m still adjusting to the time change, waking (for some reason) every morning between 3 and 4 am.  Thankfully, most mornings, I do catch another couple of hours of sleep.  I remember when I was a child, and Daylight Savings Time began, my mom and grandmother would often say: “Well, it’s only {for example} five o’clock by the sun.”  Now, when I compare the actual time to what time it is by the sun, I think of them and smile.

5.)  Motor Man is always sharing funny stories from his childhood with me.  This past week, he shared one I hadn’t heard.  When he was a young boy, he lived on a fairly busy street.  He and his buddies partners-in-crime would occasionally crouch down between parked cars and when a car would pass by, they would make the sound of a police siren.  Well, of course, I had to get him to re-enact for me.

The Beauty

Our weather has been so nice recently.  The low humidity has made for beautifully clear skies. So I decided to share a few of my favorite photos of late.

Sunrise at home a couple of weeks ago.

Amazing reflections at the marina just after sunrise yesterday morning.

On a recent trip to the Outer Banks, Motor Man and I were amazed at all the contrails. We always enjoy our rides on the beach, but having such a pretty day was a bonus.

Returning from the beach, we drove through the tiny village of Duck and stopped to get this picture of an anchored sailboat at sunset.

I had finished writing this post last night, when I read one just published by my blogging friend, Beth Anne (It’s Just Life).  In her post, she mentioned the tragedy in Paris, but wrote that, in events like that, she looks for those helping the ones who are hurt. Although there is much evil in our world, we need to remember that everything isn’t bad. She has hope, and she chooses to focus on the good.

After reading her post, I wondered if, subconsciously, that’s why I decided to post photos of clouds, sunrises and sunsets today.  Perhaps, without even realizing it, I chose to share a little beauty, in contrast to the sadness of recent events.
