Picture This: Spring

It’s Thursday, and that means I’m linking up to Mama Kat’s Writing Workshop. The prompt I chose today is:

4.) Photo Story: Take a walk through your neighborhood this week and share some pictures of what spring looks like where you live.

I take a walk in my neighborhood almost every morning, but I fudged a bit on this prompt and  took photos in my own yard.  This is how my spring day unfolded.

It began with an awesome orange sunrise.

As I was heading out for my morning walk, I noticed the primrose is blooming in the flowerbed by the driveway. I’m loving these flowers right now. The verbena has come back this year in full force, and the temperatures haven’t gotten warm  enough yet to kill the pansies.

Later in the day, Motor Man sees a pair of Canadian Geese and their little ones out in the yard. It’s the first time we’ve seen goslings this year. Every spring, it seems that the babies disappear. The parents keep a watchful eye on them, but the predators somehow manage to get to them. Maybe the youngsters will fare better this spring.

The day ends with a peaceful spring sunset.

So how is spring coming along in your neighborhood?

  1. Thank you for this…reminds us to take the time to really notice the beauty around us…NO MATTER THE SEASON.

  2. Oh I am JEALOUS! Spring is GORGEOUS from your neighborhood!

  3. Thank you for sharing this relaxing stroll through your neighborhood. Spring has certainly sprung in lovely fashion there. 🙂

  4. Visiting from Mama Kat’s…what gorgeous photos! It’s my dream to one day live on a lake here in Michigan. Looks like you have some great views – enjoy 🙂

  5. Just beautiful! Love every picture in this. The goslings are precious. I hope they make it. We live on the Chesapeake Bay so I am in love with the waterviews. I can’t imagine not living near the water. You may be near me?(Maryland). I’m guessing one of the Carolinas or perhaps Virginia with views like this. We used to live on our boat and travel the ICW. Best mornings ever were on the boat watching the sun come up and the wildlife waking!

    • Hi, Anne,
We’re in southeast Va, but travel to Cambridge, Md every summer for the boat race. I agree with you: can’t imagine not living near the water!

  6. Spring is in full rain mode here in the North.
Your pictures look like Summer compared to us. Such pretty colors and I love your Verbena.
Right now, we still have some snow on the north sides of things, like tree lines and buildings and the only color we have is our grass greening up. 😉
    Thank you for the walk.
    Lovely Thursday to you!

  9. Spring has certainly arrived down there! The verbena is great, and I have to say : I really like the flag!!

  10. Your Spring is gorgeous! I also have a family of geese on my road. They seem to do well every year. I often see them crossing the street as I’m driving by. Do they make a “geese crossing” sign? Thanks for sharing these. I can’t wait for it to look like that here in NH.

    Visiting from Mama Kat’s.

  12. oh those goslings!!! i hope they make it! such cute little fuzzy things! and as always, your sunsets are just spectacular!!!

  13. Great photos as usual. I love to wake up in the morning…yes it is STILL morning when I wake up in the neighborhood…and walk out on the deck and say good morning to the ducks, geese and the swan if he’s around. I also counted 5 goslings. So far so good! Maybe they should learn to swim in Bondurants pool so those nasty snapping turtles won’t get them!

  14. Those views of the sun are beautiful. Where ever you live I want to visit.

  19. Nice down here in SC but the morning started with a bang. The huge storm front came through starting about 4am, drove to work in thunderstorms and hail. But like so many storms it cleared and is now mid 70’s at 6 pm and beautiful Thanks for sharing your sunrise.

  20. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spring pictures. Your flowers are so gorgeous…I am a bit envious. I don’t think we’re done with our snow/rain mixes so I especially enjoy your reminder that spring will come!

  21. Those little goslings really capture the spirit of spring. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for them!

  22. Gorgeous sunset and such sweet little gosling! Happy Spring!

  23. Beautiful pictures. The goslings look so tiny!

  25. This is the first time in 3 years we haven’t had a Robin’s nest in our holly bush. Don’t know if something happened to that particular pair of Robins or if they got tired of the snakes and kitties destroying their nest, eggs and last year the baby birds. Every evening when I would get home from work I’d get out of my car and talk to them as they sat on the nest. They seemed to know I wouldn’t bother them. It always broke my heart when the nest was destroyed. Also, Dan had cut the bush way back, so maybe that was why they didn’t nest. Maybe next year?
