My Version Of Instagram

Today, I’m participating in Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop. The prompt I chose is:

4.) Instagram fun! Share a photo you took with Instagram this week and tell us what you love about it.

But I have a confession: I don’t “do” Instagram. At least, not yet.  So, I’m substituting a photo I took this week with my cell phone in order to text it to my son, Marshall.

Yesterday I shared that Motor Man and I drove to Strasburg, Virginia on Sunday to meet my blogging friend, Pam, and her husband, Dave. On the way, we saw a sign for the town of Marshall, Virginia, but our route didn’t take us in that direction.

On our way home, however, we detoured so we could see Marshall, Virginia. And I texted this picture of the sign to my son, Marshall.

Now – for what I love about this picture. Obviously, I love seeing my son’s name on a sign.  But visiting the town of Marshall also brought back a memory from his childhood.

During Marshall’s growing up years, a girl named Maggie lived across the street from us. She was just a few months older than Marshall, and the two of them played together after school almost every day. I don’t recall how we came to discover this (probably one rainy afternoon when I was looking for something to occupy their attention), but we found out that there are towns in Virginia named Marshall AND Maggie. And we all thought that was cool.

I’ve never been to the town of Maggie. But if I do, I’ll be texting Marshall a picture of the sign. Unless I’ve mastered Instagram by then.

  1. Serendipity .. again! 🙂 MJ

  2. The town of Marshall is cute isn’t it? I’m glad you stopped long enough to snap a photo of the sign for Marshall – no doubt that’s a “keeper” for him!

    Pam (and Sam)

  3. And we have a Marshall, Missouri too!

  4. Very cool! I love the way you placed the photo of sign of the town of Marshall next to the “real” Marshall:) If you ever make a trip to Blacksburg, Maggie is just about 40 minutes away! And then believe it or not there is a Marshalltown VA just about 40 minutes from Maggie! Both are in Craig County.

  5. That is such a cool picture. Marshall, TX is between Dallas and Shreveport. Lady Bird Johnson graduated from Marshall High School although she was born in another small town also, in Harrison County.

  6. What a neat thing! We just saw something on FB today with a town of “Seymour” – my maiden name (well, you already knew that!)…so cool to find those kinds of signs. Nice of you to take the detour too – you are a good mom!

  7. Cool sign – I love that the town was established in 1797, you all have so much more history than we do here in Michigan!

And you definitely need to get Instagram – it’s so much fun 🙂

  8. What a treat!

  9. That really is a nice sign….worthy of your Marshall, I’d say!! It would be cool to ‘photoshop’ the date to his birth year…idk – photo fun! I think it’s so sweet the memory that it triggered…and I know we’ll get a photo of the Maggie sign when you make it to that town too!

  10. that’s sweet.

  11. I’ve only run into a few other people with the name… It’s a very nice sign, and I meant to do the research the other day; originally Salem? .. we’ll see!

it’s a great name, he looks like a marshall!! i love that you take detours, the hubs and i are relaxed that way also when we travel!!

  13. Been to or through Marshall many times. Now I know who it was named for…..but I don’t think the Marshall that I know was “established” in 1797!

  14. How nice! My son’s name is Caleb. I don’t think there’s any place with that name. But then again, on our trip west last summer we found a town named ‘What Cheer’, so anything is possible!

  15. How fun! What a neat thing that you found a town with the same wonderful name as your son. Hope the two of you get to visit there sometime soon!

  16. I haven’t gotten around to Instagram yet, either. Recently downloaded Camera + but haven’t posted anything from it yet.

  17. What fun, Dianna….towns named after your son and his childhood friend! I’m glad you got to Marshall and were able to text the picture to your son.

We never know what we might find on our travels. What a great find.
Hope you and yours have a happy and blessed Easter.
